You're almost there! Looks fantastic. Every time I see what you're up to the urge to buy a 3D printer gets stronger... I used a lighter to shrink my tubing for the plug wires.

Got sidetracked from the wiring. Threw some paint on the dashboard and got the coil ready to go. Need to figure out how to best paint the speedo next. |

Wow the dash looks amazing! Is the speedo from a resin printer? Maybe hire some 1/10 sized painters for the speedo? I would say make a sticker for the speedo but you already have the raised numbers on it so thats not really helpful. Its one of those details you'll labor over getting it right but once installed it will be very hard to see. I know how it goes though I cant bring myself to do a half assed job even if it'll never be seen again. I'm trying to imagine how to mask off around the letters, submerge the lower area in water or something that wont let the paint stick then brush on the numbers. Or maybe apply painters tape over the whole thing and scrape the letters to expose them, then paint. Apply paint with exacto blade? Either way that's going to be a challenge for sure. It's from Scorched Parts on Shapeways. Expensive but what the heck. The speedo and radio and trim are Shapeways' smoothest fine detail plastic. And yeah, I'll probably spend way too much time trying to get it to look right. And yeah, no one will see it but I'll know. I guess that's why it's called a hobby (another word for obsession). I'll keep my eyes peeled for those 1/10 scale painters too. I saw someone had a Bob Ross figure. Maybe he's the guy. |

I just realized the background is black and the lettering is white, I dont know why but I was thinking it was the opposite. With that in mind I would think an easy way to do the speedo might be to just spray the cluster and then go back and either scrape or sand the paint off the numbers (I assume they're raised). Some back lighting might be slick too.

Exactly my thoughts. I put a layer of black on last night and will attempt sanding it off the numbers gently. I’ll post the results later this weekend.

Thanks Jato. A little more progress today. Kept it simple. No lights in the dash. And here it is mocked up in the body. Tomorrow I need to clean my bench to find that tiny knob that I lost. Last edited by Tossedman; 03-06-2020 at 08:35 PM. |

Couldn't fine the darn knob so I made some more out of styrene. Stretched a bit of styrene rod over a candle and then melted the end a bit to give it a rounded shape. Hard to make two alike but these are pretty close. |

Looks good, first thought of my 64 Bug from (a long time ago). My Baja started with 68 Beetle body. I hope you don't mind some of your ideas being copied. With credit to you.

Copy away good sir! No credit needed as most of my ideas are copied from somewhere else as well. Post a build thread so we can all copy yours as well.

Bit more done this weekend. New distributor and yellow plug wires. “Bolted” on the coil and hooked it up. Now need to remember the firing order and get those plug wires connected and a few other wires added. On to exhaust after that. Last edited by Tossedman; 04-05-2020 at 10:36 PM. |

Spent a few more minutes this afternoon getting the generator wires hooked up. Well, 2 of 3 anyway. Not that you'll see it... Last edited by Tossedman; 04-10-2020 at 04:54 PM. |

Thanks, I just wanted it up and out of the way. Looks like I've succeeded in that. Working on inner fenders now.
