Spent a bit of time in Adobe Illustrator and drew up some inner door panels and laser cut them with a plastic called Trolase. It's the kind of material they make engraved name tags from. It's black with a thin red layer on one side that you can engrave into showing the black behind. I saw something similar on the TamiyaClub site. The armrest is just a 4mm piece of acrylic cut to shape. Last edited by Tossedman; 05-25-2020 at 09:08 AM. |

The interior is looking sharp! Great idea on the door cards. Oh and I see the inner fenders in the back, those look good too. what did you do for those? Last edited by HumboldtEF; 05-23-2020 at 10:58 AM. |

Thanks for the link, I might just order some of their inner fenders for my Arrma Senton, that thing gets super dirty inside.

Yeah, he's the same guy that designed the dashboard I got from Shapeways. Makes good stuff.

OK, been playing around with some ideas. I really like the door cards but don't want to hide them with a giant transmission in the middle of the interior. I was looking around the intewebs and found a German crawler forum called rockcrawler.de. There I found a couple of Sand Scorcher crawlers on MST CFX chassis but they'd flipped it around so that the transmission is at the back. I have an MST CMX but picked up the CFX conversion kit and put it in the back. It's a Beetle right? That's where the motor belongs. I'm going to print some new sliders with front extensions that will allow me to move the ESC and receiver out of sight under the dash. I'm going to cut a couple of new door cards tomorrow that are a bit smaller and then try to figure out an interior. Even though it's not done I took it out to the Blackfoot RC Crawler park to see how it crawls. I was surprised that it worked as well as it did. It'd definitely a small wheel crawler though. Have to work at lines that my TRX-4 will walk all over. Fun though. And so much for the paint job. Hard fenders don't like rocks. Note to self. Make sure all hub caps are tight before crawling. Thanks Durok. Yeah I can't leave things alone. This is another step closer to completion, but a long way to go yet.

Interesting build! Yeah, motor definitely belongs in the back! I think this is the first time I've seen it done! I'll have to check out that forum. Beetle looks great out on the rocks! |

Well, after scraping the hell out of the paint running it on the rocks, I've added a bit of an interior and a ragtop on the roof. The seats are Wraith seats painted grey so that you can see them in the black of the interior. A Wild Willy driver is being painted as I write this. The ragtop is something I've been thinking about how to do for months. Tried some thin urethane foam but it was too thick. Was looking online for cordura nylon or vinyl or something when I came across an old reusable shopping bag in the basement. I was about to throw it out when I looked more closely at the material and thought that this might look OK. I cut out a rounded rectangle and glued it to the roof with three 1mm styrene rods underneath. I like the look. Might need a bit of refining but it's a good start. |
