Thanks guys. Well it's slowly starting to warm up so almost time for paint. I'm definitely going to do a yellow paint job, always wanted a yellow fj40. Just have to decide if I weather or not. Never tried that before. I guess the worst case I just sand and re-paint if I don't like it

Looking way sweet. My first car was a 1969 fj40 I bought when I was 12 years old for 250$. It was very clean. I say paint it clean no rust. It’s worth it, to nice of a build.

Finally started laying down some paint. I was able to get some stuff done but the weather is so crazy around here. Last week it was 70 and now we are having a blizzard! The interior was such a pain in the DASH. Ha ha. Taping this thing off was quite a challenge, so many curves and odd areas. Here are some pics of the interior.



This will be my driver. I found her at Walmart but I don't remember her name. She is a pretty good fit but not really sitting on her butt. Oh well. I bolted her feet down so she doesn't go anywhere.





Here the dash is installed and its a finished product.





Almost forgot, a little trick I did to make the seats look less like plastic. I took a really wore out red scrotch brite pad and sanded the seats in one direction. I think it looks pretty good.

Loving it, FJ40's are probably my favorite body for a scaler. Some great work here!

Finally had some time to work on this thing. I started with filling in the turn signal holes, wasn't really feeling them. Went for a cleaner look.




Next thing up, start laying down some paint. I started with the front grill. I tried to tape it off but that was a pain. Than i came up with this idea. I took some styrene and used a circle that was almost perfect as a guide. Drilled a hole and put it in the dremel to make a perfect circle. Lightly bolted it through the grill, paint, and let dry. It worked and no overspray!






And the finished product, well 99% finished. Just a couple of small details left. Do some testing and get some good outdoor pics.









The original plan was to do a ruff/weathered looking truck but the paint came out too nice. I couldn't bring myself to do that. Maybe once it has some wear i'll change the paint and add some rust and stuff.

Thanks everyone. This was a fun build. I still haven't had much time to get out and drive lately. Hopefully soon. So for the metal I used on the rear tire rack it's 3/16 solid round bar, 1/8 thick by 1/2 wide plate for the tire mount part, and the mesh was from the screen of an old speaker. I love that mesh stuff, it comes in handy for a lot of different things, it looks great behind the front grill of a truck. I've found it with really large holes to very small. All of that was steel. For the trans and esc plates that was aluminum. Esc plate is .060 thick and trans was a bit thicker at .080, just to play it safe.
