3D Printed Range Rover Classic This rig started of as an original 1980’s Tamiya Hilux chassis that was straightened, converted to rear 3 link and a HSP gearbox in the front. It ran well like this but I fancy a change so I’m going to be using files from thingiverse to print a Range Rover body for it. The plan is for it to be ready for the UK Recon G6 which is in just over a month so I don’t have long. Heres a link to the body that im using: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3253387 https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0ce400b77b.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic I’ve started printing some of the parts for it, black isn’t the best colour to spot the imperfections but it’ll be painted in the end so it’s not too big of an issue. I’m planning on converting to front 3 link and doing the spring/shock setup similar to the full-size Range Rover with some 3D printed parts. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...84793dcb0a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...85b348d998.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic Started taking apart the front end to 4 link it, used the front leaf spring mounts as the lower link mounts on the chassis as I did on the rear using some scale hardware. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ad868bc2aa.jpg Im also thinking about slightly re working the rear end by mounting the 3rd link lower down and making a new axle truss that looks a bit better. As originally the Hilux was built with performance in mind I configured the links so the axle was on a slant for better driveshaft angles. This works well but looks a bit weird on a scale vehicle so I’m going to sort that out https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1486f238e5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9348915b15.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic I’ve started on the front 4 link, using the flat bar link mount as it gives me more space for the servo arm and made a link mount for the rear out of aluminium. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...aeaae395f4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9014194fec.jpg Also being testing some 3D printed straight axle adapters for the highlift and TLT axles copying an old RC4wd design. I need to beef them up a bit if I were to use them in the final model. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...543d83b63a.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic Finished the front 4 link, should have pretty scale flex. Need to start designing the spring holders for the axle and frame rails and then start on the rear end 4 link. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f793597bc3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4f20818fb6.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic Printing continues, decided to experiment on doing some scale damage to one of the front wings, looks okay I think but going to keep this body straight. The body is going to be very wide, about 230mm so the wheels should have a bit of tuck in the end.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5ba077800c.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e098697c23.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...436bdc1002.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic Slowly getting more parts printed, sanding is gonna take a while on this lol. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...569d2e1cb7.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic Not sure if anyone is reading this but hello![emoji1672] Mocked up the ride height, I think it looks about right? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d169fd9e0a.jpg Started making the rear lower links, cut them a little too short (it’s meant to be 313mm wb) so going to have to use extended rod ends for them like on the front. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...37cf5457f6.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9fb77fb674.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7233b67c9f.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic Got the rear links done with the longer rod ends, got perfect wheelbase. Now just need to do the upper links, peoples should I use my original upper link mounts or mount it lower down onto the frame rail like at the front? As the old mount was just an ill slap it here and see if it works situation, I don’t know much about link positioning and how it affects things so Lemme know! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...26158f55e4.jpg 1. To the original high mount https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bf0a141a3d.jpg 2. Lower down to give more interior space https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b561074587.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic I'll bet this would have a bunch of "likes" if they hadn't pulled that feature. I'm following along too. Very cool what you're doing. |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic I'm looking forward to seeing this one progress. |
Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic I'm Also Following Along On Your Build ... keep At It "thumbsup" |

Re: 3D Printed Range Rover Classic Got the front shocks mounted on the axle, need to design a new shock tower. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6deee0729c.jpg Swapped over to my TLT axle to test the straight axle adapters and to have space to mount the spring on the axle I will need to use the straight axle pieces. They mount up nice but only time will tell on strength. Although adding all that thickness to where the links mount has pushed the lower links back resulting in the axle pointing down, I’ll need to lengthen or move the upper links to combat this. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...472734efc3.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8d1494bccd.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3d8d0bc793.jpg Also designed up some simple spring perches for the rear axle to sandwich between the link mounts. A screw will come up and a spring cone thing will mount there to hold the spring in place. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...00c52ca528.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
