So I new what I wanted to do just wasn't sure how luckily I managed to obtain a cheap maverick scout! So I grabbed my trusty angle grinder an attacked some aluminium plate to make some chassis rails!

So I chose my body a scorcher shell! I wanted to do a unimog but I like the detail in a hardbody but my original chassis plates looked bit rubbish under the scorcher shell!! So back out into shed shed with my trusty grinder an now I have chassis rails mk2

This looks realy nice, I love the chassis so far. In my experience building from scratch, or even a second vehicle dosent save any money, alwayse seems to cost much more as trips to the hardware stores add up. But it's worth it imo. Driving the cars isn't a hobby so much as building them is, imo.

So a managed to get my hands on nice chunk of nylon which I cut to size notched corners an tapped holes for a skid plate an then it was on to trying to figure out links cause there not standard sizes so I grabbed some M3 threaded rod cut it to a rough length so I could try an figure some proper sizes for links!! Got there eventually!!

So I'm waiting for some material to come through post for links so I thought let's get some paint on shell!! I decided to do some thing different than just blast it with a rattle can!! So after little bit of research I brought some model paint!! Kicked up compressor dugout my cheap airbrush an blasted 3 coats of silver primer on shell!! This is something I have never done before!! It took a while to figure out what I was doin an I don't think I will bother buying another spray can again!!

Alright another Bug build! looking good

The jig to keep the axles in place looks familiar, I did the same thing.

It looks like you patched in the sunroof too.

I just wanted something different bit bored of jeeps an Toyota's !! I was going to do a unimog first but not to keen on tamiya shell I prefer hard body detail!! The jig was just an idea I had to hold axles in place! Turned out to be very useful!! Sorry if I stole your idea!! An yes glued an filled sunroof an all body mount holes!!

Oh no I wasn't suggesting that was my idea at all, I was just commenting on it since my bug was at that stage maybe 4 months ago.

I know its just primer but I really like the red oxide color on a bug

Keep up the good work

What does your bug look like now?? I must admit I painted primer on i thought it suited shell!! Bit late now it's red though!! I did think about masking a door or wing panel off an leaving it primer!! May do that if the rust idea doesn't work!!
