Default Killerbody Toyota LC70 on portals

Life got in the way this year and I didn't build anything new for Team KnK hardware's TTC6. Instead I purchased a RTR Redcat Gen8 and did the necessary mods to make it class 0 legal.
I was -8 points short of the -50 scale points going into it but did all I could do.

So needing more scale points and a new hardbody build I decided on the Killerbody LC70. A quick Google search came up with several 1:1 builds on Portal axles. Perfect seeing I need the extra clearance for the tiny tire Dick Cepek 1.9 Fun Country II.

I moved the stock links inward on the chassis holes for the required 12.3" wb.

My plan was to leaf spring the rear but the frame curves inward making me re think that idea. So I made my own cantilever suspension to clean up the rear portion of the frame.

Got rid of all this....

For this.....

Now the body sits down like it should.
Simple aluminum channel bracket on rear. Two knk hardware 3mm SS flat heads bolt the bed down.

Up front I cut the stock inner fenders to clear the body. Again 3mm SS flat heads bolt through the inner fenders into screw posts molded into the body shell.

I had to trim the shock towers for the hood to clear.

That's all that is needed to mount this body to a Gen8 securely. I'll decide on something in the bed to hold a battery so there will be no need to remove the body except maintenance or repairs.

Because more heavier is better.

"LIKED" and Subscribed!

I have recently fell in love with these LC70 bodies and have been thinking about getting one for a new build.

Can't wait to see more!

Oh and I too was at Team KNK TTC6. What a blast it was and to see another record setting year!

Cut the stock sliders and boxed in underneath to hide esc wires.

Brought the battery plug and switch through cab. Will make a toolbox to house the battery in the bed.

Trimmed and mounted the Axial flares for complete tiny tire coverage.

That looks really good! May have to do something similar on mine with the fender flares. Keep the build pics coming!

I have a vision of an outback, weekend getaway trail rig. Thinking hard on some type of trailer to pull behind it also.

With the exception of a 13t pinion this is all stock Redcat and my plan is to keep it that way until something fails. I'm really impressed with this platform so far.

The rims are Boom Racing 1.9 Narrow 21mm Badass Classic 16-Hole Steelie Wheels Rear Gun Metal, and front.
There are two different part numbers because of the two different scale hubs they come with.
Awesome wheels and easy to mount the rc4wd Dick Cepek FC II's on.

That body looks right on this chassis/tire combo. Nice job.

The fender flares look a little extra wide tho. Maybe just in the pictures...

Thanks!

Class 0 requires full, or close to full tire coverage. And i had these flares laying around. I might explore other options if they don't look right once paint is completed.

Thanks. I was going flat anyways but had some issues with the paint in some areas so instead of re doing it I went this route. Lol

Primed frame with etching primer and sprayed it with matte black.

Today we'll do a lesson in foamanology. Google it....It's not there.

The stock foams in the Fun Country II's... well they suck. They are single stage and very soft.

Hard to see in this pic but they are soft and very squishy. And very unstable on the sidewall.

A browse around Crawler Innovations website brings us to these. The fundicks are 3.85" tall I believe. So their 4.0" and under lil Nova's will do the trick.

Now, the fundicks are a narrow tire. And I mounted them on the narrow (21mm) Boom Racing steel wheels.
So the foam needed modified. I cut the outer foam a tad wider than the tire tread width.

And stuffed that inside.

Next up the directions say if you're running wheel weights you need to use a sanding drum and Dremel to relief the inside of the inner foam so as too not push the outer foam and expand the overall diameter as the foams won't work as designed. Hmmmmm. Never had a problem with it so I did not do that step.

I did however cut off the outer most bead or ridge from the inner foam so it matched the width of the inner bead ring of the wheels. And then stuffed it inside, followed by the weighted inner ring.

What a difference this made. Firm is good.

I gained a little height too which makes the tires look better in the wheel openings.

Before.

After.

This concludes today's lesson.....
