Wow, thanks, you are the reason I decided to attempt this. I did not realize how much bigger your Carisma bug body is compared to the Scorcher until I saw your side by side comparison... Im just trying to keep things "scalish" at this point. Ive been thinking about switching to the MST CMX chassis for this project but then I would have to wait for the slow boat from China.

I really like your roll bar and fuel tank. Is that butyrate tubing or styrene?

I know what you mean about trains. My son has thousands of dollars worth.

Been working on my two bugs for years now so I understand what a while can mean on a build.

Cool! Glad to provide some inspiration. You'll find the MST CMX a much better fit for the Sand Scorcher body if you use the 252mm links. Their axles are much narrower as well.

Keep on carrying on.

I realized that I did not post any pictures of the actual mechanical part of my build and since the Boomracing SWB kit comes with no instructions, this might actually be helpful so here they are. Also installed the winch, a shot of the front end and one of the Injora wheel hubs I picked up but don't know if I like. I probably need a shorter battery pack and I do not know where I will fit the winch controller and lighting electronics... making the most of my vacation!

The tubing is 1/4" butyrate. The fuel tank is a reciver box cover that I trimmed and drilled for 1/4" brass tubing. The fuel line is 5/16" vinyl tubing.

The paint on that body looks like it was molded that way, what a great looking finish.

Thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it. I have ordered a MST CMX from Asia Tees, who knows when that will get here but I just don't like the monster truck stance I'm getting with the Axial on 1.9s. I also ordered the shorter axles and 1.5 wheels and tires so I guess this build should be moved to the 1.5 section. I have ordered a Scion xB body that I think will fit the Axial chassis and I will post that when it comes in. I will continue work on the bug body, I just got a roof rack in the mail and I need to work out the led taillights and headlights next. I printed some 80's era Indiana license plates (setting for the show) and found some decals that are in the Stranger Things font. I will post more pictures of the body shell soon, I still have 3 days of vacation to go! Thanks again for the positive feedback!

Turns out that the clear lenses included with the Scorcher body do not actually fit the taillight buckets. I planned on leds for the back anyway so I had to dig the plastic out and leave a small shelf for the lens to attach to as well as fabricate some aluminum plates for the leds to attach to. Finished the fuel filler exterior and backed it with some scale HR aluminum diamond plate. Also drilled for the roof rack that I painted to match body color. A shot of the license plate I made for the back, I printed a high quality inkjet photo and then trimmed the Tamiya plate holder down to the size of the printed plate. Coated the plate with a super thin layer of E6000 and I will use a photosafe waterproof sealer over the whole thing once the glue fully cures.

You can tell Im a newb by this mess of a build thread. Anyway, built the MST CMX and the wheelbase and track width were much better but I still had clearance issues with the chassis up front so I swapped the front and rear links and flipped the shock mounts. Im not sure if this is going to have a negative impact on performance but things finally look the way I want them to. Had to pick up a new nose since the modifications I made to the original wont work with the new chassis. Also picked up some 1.55 Gear Head slots and a set of Baja MTZ tires.

Yeah thats a nice improvement. Its hard to tell on the track width from those angles but it looks a fair bit narrower.

I used the MSA narrow axle set and I'm happy with the way they look. Here is the track width. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah that does look good. Everything needs to basically be as narrow as possible with this body (well for the best results).

Its odd your replacement nose is orange, or was that painted first?

It is a Blitzer Beetle nose, it does not have the turn signal holes and has a slightly different side profile. The Blitzer nose is a little deeper so it allows a bit more room up front. I still need to paint it to match.

As he stated - he's test-fitting an unpainted part...
