Ambushed Goat 6 Attachment(s) When I first saw the Capra,I knew I wanted to use the parts on a scale project. So,I did what any self respecting hobbyist would do,I bought another one to use as a donor. First idea was to use an FJ40 but,I decided to keep it a LITTLE bit simpler by not having to stretch the wheelbase. I'd been missing my old Scout build so I decided to do the Ambush. Obviously, this will be a more hardcore crawler than my old one. Here's some pics of what I have so far. The wheels and tires are borrowed from my Capra until the new ones get here. I'll post as I go. Re: Ambushed Goat 2 Attachment(s) First thing I wasn't happy with is the height of the Proline rollcage so,I added some spacers to raise it and see how I like it. I think it looks more properly proportioned now. Eventually,I plan on doing some tube work to replace the plastic cage. This at least gives me an idea of what height I want to go with. Still a lot of stuff to do but, getting there. |
Re: Ambushed Goat Love me some Internationals. |
Re: Ambushed Goat I like it! 100% agree on the cage height. Looks way better with some elevation. |
Re: Ambushed Goat 5 Attachment(s) Got my SSD Challenger wheels and Proline tires. First thing to do was add some wideners since I had a problem with my other Capra's wheels rubbing on the Hot Racing knuckles. Set one of my other rings over the wheel to see how I liked it. I think they cover up too much of the details of these wheels so,I drew up a simple set to give it a little more style over the stock rings. Whats your thoughts on them? Also, picked up an RC4WD winch but, think it looks a little to big for the pinched front of this body so,I ordered the mini winch to see if I like it better. I'll know more once it gets here. |
Re: Ambushed Goat 4 Attachment(s) Got the motor mocked up and the transmission in. It's a close fit. Now to decide where I want to mount the battery. Either way,I'll have to make a mount. |
Re: Ambushed Goat Looking good!✳️ |
Re: Ambushed Goat Interesting use of a Sharpy pen & Duracell flashlight...lol ~ More peace, love, laughter & kindness would make the world a MUCH better place [emoji1690] |

What can I say? I'm old school. :lmao: |
Re: Ambushed Goat 1 Attachment(s) Battery mount is designed. Now I just have to find time to machine it. This will fit any of the batteries I already have for my first Capra."thumbsup" |
Re: Ambushed Goat I like the wheels with the stock rings best. |
Re: Ambushed Goat 6 Attachment(s) Battery box from a block of Delrin to a finished part. Looks better in person. My Iphone camera seems to overemphasize some things. :ror: Plenty of room for even bigger batteries. They'll be held in with velcro straps. |
Re: Ambushed Goat 5 Attachment(s) Was having a problem finding a bumper that would work so,I designed and am machining my own. Am going for a rectangular tube look. Here's what I came up with. Front one is done and mounted. Still need to finish the rear. Also, got my rings back from laser today. Need to clean them up and they'll be ready to mount. |
Re: Ambushed Goat Damned snazzy. |
Re: Ambushed Goat Great idea Pat, it looks great! I had the same type of cage on my old Axial Scout. It looked to squat to me, yours does as well. I made some 1/4" high Delrin spacers to lift the cage up a bit higher. It really made the cage and the body look more proportional. |

Agreed, stock rings or the ones you drew up best! :) Quote:
Nice, looks great and black to match the chassis. Bumpers would be nicer in delrin too, slide over rocks better and I've not broken my home made delrin bumpers! "thumbsup" |

P.S. More pics. Rear bumper done.Receiver is actually functional. Now I can clean stuff up,sandblast it and,get some paint on. |
Re: Ambushed Goat 4 Attachment(s) What good is a receiver if you don't use it. Also, was indecisive on what I wanted to do with the lower links. If you've seen some of my past builds, you'll know that I usually make some machined lowers. Couldn't decide on what old design I wanted to use so,I drew up a new design. The basics on them are the same but,I changed them just enough to make them unique to this build. The first pics are some of the old designs.Last one is what I think I'll make for this one. Let me know what you think. |
