Put the axles under the rig and adjusted the wheelbase using homemade 3d printed links to get the wheel base right. It turns out the wheel base sits at 260 mm. The body sits high right now because the transmission tunnel hasn't been opened up to allow the body to sit lower. Also the shocks in front are to long and not in droop set up.

Next up cutting the transmission tunnel and getting the right front shocks. I am not sure of how I am going to mount the body but I am think of making some frame to side at the middle of the truck and the use screws from the top down to so the screws are hidden. Electronics I am thinking of building a box for the bed and putting the esc and receiver plus 1500 ma battery, so the battery can be changed without taking the body off.

I have printed all the parts out and the files were great!! Used ABS and 15% infill. Putting it on a SCX10II with a SSD transmision and Forward Cross Mounted Servo. Might be a challenging fit. Got the rear suspension and wheel base down to 270 mm roughly, using a Dinky cantilever suspension. Will add more as I progress.

Got the body glued together, and laid first coat of primer, now comes filler and sanding, but not as bad as I would have thought from a 3d Print.

The Chassis is SCX10II with ssd transmission and rear dinky cantilever. I am going to have to cut 1 inch off the rear of the frame rails to fit the body no biggie. Then build the body mounts. Waiting to assemble the front axle and put it under the rig, the rear suspension and Axle I am thinking of ordering the shortest axial links and cut a little from both ends to fit the chassis around the 11 inch mark.

This is cool.. Really dig the cj body style .. Did you have a class in mind for this build or?

It will be class 1, mostly building for the fun factor handling won't be the greatest at a 260 mm wheelbase. I am trying to build vehicle that have run in the Camel Trophy.

Thanks

I printed the body from a file on Thingverse. It prints great and goes together where the parts once glued help to strengthen the body.

Excellent! I'm a big fan of CJ-5's. I actually own two 1:1 Willys CJ-5's. By the details in the body, it looks like a '71.

Well done so far...can't wait to see more. "thumbsup"

That is a great looking body. Are the printed links for construction use only or are you planning on keeping them? The super wobbly links of the original scx10 come to mind. I dont know really anything about 3d printing so I might be off in thinking they may not work in the long term.

Big fan of the old jeeps as well. Have a 78 cj5 that unfortunately is pulling snow plow duty. Old girl just keeps on rolling.

Can I ask what printer you are using? The print quality and body look great
