antigacho Custom Truggy (a real truggy this time)

I really like the Truggy look for RC crawlers, definitely my favorite,

My first crawler (scx10 II) was severely modified to look like a truggy but when I read the SORRCA Rules I realize that it is not a real Truggy so I decided to build a new one

Apparently a real truggy Must replace the ladder frame behind the cab with tube so the northwest scaler design “Sawed Off” Chassis would be perfect for this project

I've been collecting parts since last January, this was intended to be my 2020-2021 project but due to the recent oil war/covid-19 crisis the Mexican peso had lost 35% vs USA dollar so suddenly all the RC parts becomes super expensive and I can afford to place new orders for the pending parts, so this project is going to take a lot of time.

Is my intention to build something similar to this

I was planning to get the Northwest Scaler Designs ST-1 Scale Frame Table. before this happens. I dream about that tool, sadly the progress on this build has stopped due to my financial situation

Did you make the cage yourself? It looks excellent. I want to build a truggy next, but I am thinking I'm going to do a 2.2, but not even really sure where to start when building a SORRCA qualified one.

Hi Stretch911 I am planning to build the rear cage for this project,
for my false Truggy I ordered a rear cage build by JR Fabwork paying $140 + custom fee + international shipping

for my next projects (enduro sendero and unimog), I build the bumpers and rear cages with zero experience but great results. I just follow some tutorials and advices of the master builders on this forum

I really encourage you to try, you just need some basic tools.

That's awesome. My buddy who just got me into he hobby made an entire wraith based chassis from scratch, I definitely want to get more into the deeper customization once I get a little deeper into the hobby. I too am working on an Element Sendero here, I converted it to a Jeep Comanche hardbody. In fact, I am in the process of re-painting it as we speak.

Dear master builders out there. I need some help

I am planning to build this Truggy using "rear trailing arms" instead of links
My question is which trailing arms I need to keep the usual 313mm wheelbase: I notice different trailing arms options available: Baja Rey, twin hammer, wraith, bomber, yeti.

Which one should I choose?

Is my intention to order: upper links, steering links and front lower links for scx10ii geometry but,
Which trailing arm will I need to replace the rear lower links?

little by little I am gathering parts for this build

I already have the heart on this build: Chassis rails, axles, and transmission
But I just notice that the salinas skid plate is noticeably wider than the stock scx10ii skid plate (84mm vs 70mm), that creates a wider space between front shock towers that affects the shocks clearance and overall geometry

Apparently my options are: bend/pinch the chassis rails to narrow the gap between shock towers, (but that probably will affect the axis of symmetry) or get a different transmission that uses the same wide size than the scx10ii skid plate

I really like my Salinas ODT transmission so I will try to pinch the chassis rails to 70mm at front end hope not to mess it up

Finally I gather all the parts to build the rockjock axles

It takes me several months to save the money, find the elusive rockjock axles, and wait for delivery

I found the front axle at rcmart and the front one at fanatic-rc



I was super exited about these axles. I really like the design

unfortunately during the buid I found two big problems

1. the Incision SCX10 II VDI Universals INCIRC00180 just didnt fit well. it was really hard to mount the shafts and rotation was really tight almos impossible.
I try mountig the Axial AR44 Universal Axle Set (AXI31402) that I had installed in another rig, totally different experience, smooth installation and smooth rotation
so disappointed about the Incision front axle shaft

2. the included screws for the Currie Rockjock front Diff Cover didnt fit, different size screws were included in the package so I can´t finish the build,
now I have to find the correct screws and wait another month for delivery

Had a question about pitching the chassis to fit the Salinas ODT trans/skid. I'm having the exact same issue.. uGspeed chassis rails, ODT trans and TGH DSM.

How did pitching the chassis to fit turn out? Any binding or odd chassis angles? Any pictures?

Anyone know if this is common?

I dont know how the chassis will turn out after pitching, but I found this picture, so now I have an idea how this will turn out,



I asked about this situation in the facebook group called Northwest Scaler Designs Fan Page

Apparently there are divided opinions on how to proceed, some prefer to pinch and some others prefer to bend, both having good results

I´m using different chassis in other builds
A pinched gspeed chassis on my elemet enduro rebuild and a pre-bend BP Custom GenX Steel SCX10 Chassis on my unimog

In my opinion the bend chassis looks better so I think I will follow that way on his build, I dont have a sheet bending machine so I am planning to use a couple locking pliers to do that. I just have to be careful, I hope not to mess it up

Interesting... I'm stuck with pinching the chassis due to it being carbon fiber.. i may try narrowing the skid a little.

I received the missing VP diff cap screws ordered at amain hobbies

now I can finish the axle build



I also ordered high clearance links at

I have to wait to receive the links and some other electronics that are on the way including:

Thanks for pointing out the builder tools.... Now I found 2 more things I need in life!

Love using the Vaquish parts on my builds. Just got a VS4-10 pro and had a screw length or hole not tapped deep enough issue on the differential bearing cap screws. They sent shorter screws so my little bubble of a world is sunny again.

Looking forward to see what you fab for the rear half, I need ideas to my rear cage.

A lot of time since my last update
good news, I finally finish this Project

this is a recap of the build process based on the pictures that I rescue from my phone

2 years in a single post


I want to build an unique design for the rear section so I spend some hours just staring at this build trying to figure out how to start



For the metal work I'm using stainles steel rod

this is how I start the build of the rear seccion





I also had to find a way to mount the electronics
I am planing to use a direct powered servo and internal winch system

Initially my intention was to use a dual servo mount but I found that the best way to mount both servos on this project is designing my own servo plate, so after several measures and a couple of prototypes later I finally got the servo plate to be welded

Very nice build! Great metal work and fabrication! Great job on the 3D printed dash. I'm going to have to download this for one of my Mojave cabs.

That scale garage looks so good! At first glance, the last pic looked like a real rig in a real garage!
