An Old Newb with a New UMG

I'm finally starting to have some free time so I decided to try and get back into RC's.

So I figured I'd start with a new RC, I wanted something that would be simple to build and maintain I also wanted plenty of battery room, sick of tiny batteries. I didn't want to start back in the hobby with something I'd worry about breaking, I wanted something fun.

So I opted for an Axial UMG, it's unimogish and I don't have one and it looks durable.

I got this far......

I tried, I really tried, but I just can't go with those headlights. I also could not find any lexan paint local, so there goes durable lexan body. I got some laquer auto primer and krylon for plastic paint, I usually use rustoleum but wanted this orange not Bright Orange, So krylon it is.

I moved the headlights to the tail lights and added some roll bar lights from a Hilux to the new holes for the headlights.

I'm happy so far, but I don't think this build will stay super simple, but it should only be accessories that I add. The exterior paint will scratch just like a hard body, but some rust and silver paint fixes that right up.

I got my UMG10 shortly after it came out. I have around 10 trucks now and it’s my favorite one to run. Incredibly capable box stock. I only have a few mods on mine and still running the stock tires and foams which are surprisingly very good. Enjoy your’s!!!

Thanks so far I'm really liking the UMG, the turning radius is fantastic.

Time to make some accessories, I looked at powered winches and other bought accessories, but I want this to stay simple and cheap, so I'll just be using stuff I have here.

Came out nicer than I expected.

I think I'm gonna try a styrene roof rack, I know it will break in a roll but so would a real one. "thumbsup"

More styrene to build, good thing hobby lobby sells model glue, brick and mortar RC shops are becoming a thing of the past around here.

As I remember it, Ranger Rick was a raccoon.

Another Ranger Rick subscriber here ( National Wildlife Federation). Yep.. Rick was a raccoon... looked blitzed out of his mind but every character did in the 70's lol.

Awesome build, OP. Love that bed and the cab color as well as the nice details on the scale accessories.

Hopefully you have better luck with the styrene bits, especially the roof, than I did. One rollover and all of that work gone lol. Looks really good though. I’m an old scale model builder and learned the hard way how much of that doesn’t translate to RC. But I was running a 12t motor so it was a spectacular rollover...lol

Thanks, Yea Ranger Rick and Smokey the Bear, I had to check but Ranger Rick is still a thing. "thumbsup"

Yea I'm worried about the styrene on the roof, but it's a scale truck and in a roll over a roof rack would get mangled

I've been busy with a new concrete walkway out back, but here's some nie weather pics on the first test drive.

Yeah, that looks good, man!
What's the little red and green wires sticking out the "door"?
Looks like a nice touch.
