Default VP VS4-10 Origin by JUSTINART24

Well, here is my VS4-10 build I have had around for ever it feels like now and this is the build thread showing what I have done with it so far.

I did buy the VP kit when it first came out but like with most of my builds I piece it together and built it slowing. The kit cost is pretty high but with the parts that come with it and the quality and great designs.... well worth it really. It's one those things, you can slowly build out one or get all of it at once and then have pretty done rig.

Right off the bat, looking at the chassis pic I started with, it now just clicked that all the new VS4-10 kits come with only plastic bumpers now. This first of the series aka "Origin" came with nice alum bumpers. This chassis also came with the alum front servo/chassis brace. This first style Origin kit was released with no brace and some people were bending the front chassis... not sure how, without the brace it seems pretty strong.

The VS4-10 chassis design is something that has been long over do. More so for the fact for it's "high" arching design to allow the transmission to sit a bit lower and to have more clearance around the axle for steering links and etc.

Another thing that is need about this chassis is the small details you don't really noticed until you look, the double shear shock hoops are pretty cool and the way the mounting is 90degs rotated versus the normal SCX10 style.

Here are some pics of when I had the SCX10.1 Currie axles underneath the chassis. These axles have a pretty large sized diff compared to the now SCX10.2&.3 axles but are pretty durable.

For tires I went with Pitbull Rock beasts, there the 4.75" tall versions. This tire is a pretty good fit for Washington state, they clean out good and hold well on mono rock too.
https://pitbullrc.com/collections/1-...ducts/pb9011nk

For the beadlocks, went with 1.9 CAC EZ-Loc's by Gear Head RC aka RPPHobby. These EZ-Loc's are a old design taken from CAC or Create a Crawler, just a small website that use to sell them before Gear Head aka RPP took on the design and production. I will say, this really are the easiest beadlocks to set a bead on, no joke.

For the shocks, I went with the 90mm VP Incision shocks. They are pretty smooth shocks but I will say the Prolines might be just a hair smoother.
https://www.vanquishproducts.com/inc...-scale-shocks/

Also, in the pic below you can see the hubs the EZ Loc's use, I forgot to mention above but you can adjust the offset by switching the hub on the other side, which is neat.

Don't mind the strange looking old axial link as a pan-hard bar but when I was running these SCX10.1 Curries, I ended up not running a pan-hard bar but just to top links to the two thread holes on the axle used for original four link mount, which was way to high.

Here is a good view of the alum front servo mount/brace, it might look like plastic but it is a nice black anodized alum piece. And to be very honest, is an insane amount of machining on that brace, I bet their glad they make those in plastic now, it couldn't have been cheap to make the alum one.

The front bumper actually has a lot of machining work as well, nice piece and some what side back enough for some decent approach angle.

The really neat thing about the VS4-10 body set is that accepts the "Rigid Industries Q-Series LED Lights" by VP. These headlights bolt into the front grill and run off 3S lipo which is nice.

Here are a few pics of the body before I painted it. The body has been laser cut trimming and man, I would pay more for this option if anyone offered it, such a nicer fit and less hassle.
https://www.vanquishproducts.com/origin-body-set/

I am going for a two toned look, orange body with a black top to help break up the color a bit.

It even came with maskings for the head lights, one of those things you always almost forget to put on, right?

When I masked the top off, I always start with a small strip of tape to make the edge and then add larger ones after that.

The corners always get me with some bleeding, so I made sure to press the corners in well.

I have seen a few others ask this, so I will state it...lol... I paint the darkest color first, then the lightest. To make sure the dark color doesn't show through the lighter one, either with pin holes or etc.

I went with a Copper to go with my long running theme of what color I have been using on my Exo Chevy build. On the Chevy I used a Testors Feury Orange and on this VS4-10 body I used a Tamiya Copper color.

Tamiya PS-5(transparent polycarbonate bodies)

Here are another few pics from a trip out to Lake Keechelus in Snoqualmie Pass, WA. We made the trip out there to check out the location prior to hosting the 2019 WARCRC Warrior Weekend event. Pic date: July 28 2019

Prior to the 2019 WARCRC Warrior Weekend event, I didn't install the VP Q-Series lights and needed to install them for that "Scale Night Run" event, which is always my favorite, nice running is another level of fun.

The headlights are running off of an extra 3S lipo, super bright!

After the 2019 WARCRC Warrior Weekend event I got inspired and picked up some actual VS4-10 axles and decided not to run the SCX10.1 Curries anymore.

9/29/20 Update: Installed the VP VFD transmission. I was just running a SCX10 style trans for a while and then drove another VS4-10 with the VFD and then had to have the VFD. The VFD really does put the weight forward and low, plus the scale looks is too rad.

I don't add much brass weight to my rigs but these cool "brass wheel clamp rings" where pretty cool design and more importantly, it's hidden. ;)
