Gspeed V3 w/ Mojave body

*EDIT* I forgot to post the build list...
Gspeed V3 Carbon
GSP skid
AR44 one-peice w/ SSD internals
Stealth X, forward spur, option 2 OD at 12%
G-LD CMS mount
MultipG panhard mount
IntheworksRC hybrid SS, Aluminum hi-clearance links
Modified SCX10.3 kit shocks w/ mini-t “front” springs
Mamba Micro Crawler
HH Snubnose V2 1800kv
Axial 56t spur w/ 11t pinion
Aluminum eBay beadlocks
PL KM3 4.7, vented at the tire w/ star cut stock foams
Flysky FS-GT5 w/ FS-BS6 rx
3s 1300 lipo

I think that's everything...

I think this thread is overdue for me. I started a V3 build back in early July. I've mostly been posting on the their FB group so I thought I'd share what I've done and where its at now.

I had originally purchased some Dravtechs for this build but ended up moving them to my VS4-10.3 build. I had the original shocks from the SCX10.3 and decided to fit them to the V3.

With the V3 being so much lighter, a spring change was in order. I decided to experiment with the Mini-T springs on here so I printed some spring cups and a cylinder sleeve to keep the springs in check. The end result is butter smooth I think it looks pretty cool to boot. Med up front w/ 30wt, firm in the rear w/ 32.5wt.

The next major change was swapping the Axial RTR 3 gear for a Stealth X. I don't mind the extra weight to add the 12% OD.

Re: Gspeed V3 w/ Mojave body

After the Stealth X was fitted and flipped to forward spur config, I printed a motor mount to hang it out front and help the weight bias.

Moving on to the body... I have always been a Toyota fan and I wanted to try my hand at hard body work so I picked up a Mojave cab.

I found some print files for the Toyzuki chassis and decided to see how they work. While they are not a perfect match, they do fit pretty good and holds body very well.

With the body in place, time for the dremel to come out and play...

Next is my first attempt at a front pinch. It's far from perfect but it is mine. I over heated the driver side quarter panel and it warped pretty good. I tried to shape it back but the damage was done.

The "Styrene slurry" was used to weld the gaps after bending them in with the heat gun.

Originally, I planned to do a half-cab with some sort of printed cage in the back. I experimented with a couple grill options but ultimately left the front end open.

Re: Gspeed V3 w/ Mojave body

After working on the cab, I decided I really wanted a dovetailed bed. This was a much bigger undertaking than I expected but so totally worth it. I REALLY need to invest in a proper razor saw...

Once again, I rushed the heating of the driver side and it too warped on me.

Next was filling in the wheel wells.

Then getting everything stitched together.

Continuing on with the body work... Fill the gap, sand the filler, hit the body with primer thinking you are ready for paint, primer exposing all the body flaws... repeat 72 million more times till you cant handle it any more...

In between glue and paint dryings, I made some tweaks to the chassis. I decided to try the G-LD and optimize as much as I could. I chose a VP 24mm servo horn. I printed a high clearance rear brace then trimmed it for max clearance of the links.

Like where this is going, thanks for posting!

Funny, I was staring at a stealth x and revolver on the bench and had the same idea about a forward mount... thought I was onto something new! Glad to see you did it though. Haven’t seen it anywhere else yet.

Nice work dude! I like the shock setup, haven't used those but with your spring/oil combo it should work well.

Loving the shocks too! Would you be willing to share the stl? What did you print them out of? Last time I tried something similar with PLA I had no luck whatsoever, the threads weren't even close to correct enough to thread over the body (I was trying axial wraith icon shocks that time)

Damn cool build. The shock idea is great. I think your dove/pinch worked pretty well. I'm about to attempt it on a clod body, definitely investing in a good razor saw first.

You running a snubnose revolver?

Great looking build!! I very much like my V3!

Re: Gspeed V3 w/ Mojave body

Oh man, thanks guys! I appreciate it.

The body was for sure inspired by Garyk's work.

I edited the first post with my build list. I love the HH snubnose. Love. It.

Here are the print files I used for the shocks

Spring cups
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3687085

Sleeve
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:825701

I used Balck PLA and zero issues so far. For the shock sleeve, I re-scaled the file in the slicer to 18mm tall and 14.3mm OD for the cylinder. That gave me the ID I wanted for the slip fit to the shock body. Everyone's printer may be different and it took me 3-4 test prints before I found the size that worked for me.

On to paint!!

After 2-3 coats of primer and a fair bit of sanding, we are on to paint. One thing I love about hard body's, you can get paint almost anywhere since you are not committed to Lexan specific paint. I chose Krylon Satin Pale Yellow.

A few more coats of paint and A LOT more sanding, here's what we ended up with...

https://i.imgur.com/1OENjFK.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/91baJwp.jpg

After clear coat, I used an M3 screw and lock nut to shore up the bed to cab glue joint (totally does NOT need it). I used M2 screws and nuts to fill the mirror and door handle mounting holes. The body is secured to the sliders with 4, M3x10 screws.

At the time, I wasn't 100% on what to do about bumpers. I had this amazon special trail bar thing laying around so the dremel came out again...

EDIT - I updated the spring info in the first post. I’m using the Losi Mini-t front spring set, Med up front and firm in the rear.

I like it, and with the weathering the ripples in the body panels just look as if they happened when the sheetmetal of a 1:1 truck came into contact with various obstacles out on the trail...

I'm planning on getting a Mojave bed and trying out my first attempts at re-shaping styrene, to wrap it around the Delrin bed of my C2X.

(if I screw up too badly, I can always leave mine off..."thumbsup")

Hell yeah, I say just dive in. It’s so worth it to see it take shape as you imagined.

Love the way this build is going! Nice work!

The next body I get is going to be a hard body, I can totally appreciate the customization that goes into these bodies!!
