Default 01 Tacoma - Lets get started

So ive been away from the hobby several years, it doesnt look like this body ever gained traction, im assuming due to it being on the small side.

Been working on it for a little bit now and figured i should share.
10.2 Kit
Chinese 2 speed
GRC inner fenders trimmed
Tekin rx4 Roc 412
Chinese wheels im switching to SSD hubs and scale hardware, will save a couple mm per side.

I was kinda surprised it wasn't more popular too. The proportions are good (close to actual 1/10 scale) and it's got the molded plastic bits that everyone claims to want, seemed like a good deal for $50. After my son's Tacoma body had some rash to it, I bobbed the bed on his at that same point too. Between that, and ditching his winch bumper for the plastic VS410 bumper, that made a significant improvement in approach and departure angles. It is begging for some narrower axles though. My son has yota2's and SSD Contender (TRD wheels) with narrow hubs and 4.19 km3's and the tires are roughly 1/2 way outside the fenders. It doesn't look bad, but narrower would look even better. His has an AX2 2 speed (or possibly a clone, can't remember?) and scx based aftermarket frame rails too, so your builds aren't terribly far apart from each other by the looks of it.

Love the body but seems like they tried to proprietarize it to RC4WD axles. Only drawback. Had it been .5-.75” larger scaling it’d been a really hot item.

I've always liked the looks of this body. It's just a bit too narrow for my rigs.

Nice paint job and bob!

I see you're in Marengo. Looks like you're just down the road from me.

Yaah - it's a great looking body but unfortunately most of the builds I've seen with it look like monster trucks due to the size/relation to tire poke. Have not seen one bobbed, bring on the pics...need more builds going on in this forum.

Thats what bugged me, every build ive seen looks like theres 10 feet between the ground and bottom of the door, so i kept mine hunkered down, I like the way it looks.

I like the 01 Tacoma body, I had it on my son SCX10. any details on how you did the bob? I was gonna bob the bed of my son's truck but someone decided they needed to have the truck more than us and stole it. Maybe I'll get another when the 4Runner body on his ne-used TRX4 gets too mangled

Just taped out where i wanted to cut, used parts of the section i cut out and shoe gooed (or E6000) them to the inside of the body.

There will be a body swap for this truck in the forseeable future, i ran it for about 40 minutes on an indoor course saturday and theres already 2 very large cracks in it, not sure about the quality of lexan used here.

there was a large crack on the bed corner of my Tacoma on the first run also. Guess I'll stick with Proline bodies, the Tacoma is nice but if the durability is not there I won't get another.

I decided i wanted to spruce up these old chanquish beadlocks.

Sand blasted and raw cleared the inner and face.
Added SSD scale hardware all around and modified some SSD wheel hubs to fit my axle weights. And topped it off with SSD scale hubs.

Found a 10.3 JLU interior laying around and decided to cut it up for this truck.
Unfortunately that means i need to relocate both the rx4 and shift servo but shouldnt be a big deal.
Still needs some more detailing.

Update time

Out with the old and in with the new
Metric body, purchased headlights, taillights, grill and mirrors off shapeways.
Purchased the files and printed the engine bay and front bumper myself so far.

New 3d printed inner fenders, couple more pieces printing now to finish.

Got the rest of my inner fender set and the knight customs demello rear bumper printed up and installed

Also decided to stick with the original build a little and bob the bed again. Plus fixed up the tail lights a bit.
