Default RCMODELex DAB Truggy

Not so much a build thread although I do have a few plans for it like an interior and some more details but this was more just to show this truck off.

Really sad that RCMODELex aren’t going to continue building trucks anymore as this is a very impressive build. I managed to convince Martin the owner to part with one of his own. The metalwork on the chassis and powder coating is really next level.

Does anybody know anything about RC4WD ballistic shocks? I’ve never seen these before?? I’m guessing that they’re a few years old.

Paint quality is something I aspire to, The gloss is insane.... hopefully my photos do it justice.

Thanks.

It’s a heavy old thing, needs a tyre foam upgrade but a quick test in the garden (we have sun for a change) proved to be good fun.

Very nice

Looks like the lower bolts holding the rear shocks on are bent or saging from being extended so far. You might be able to avoid some of that by using 1 single spacer if you can find one. Or if you 3D print you could design a bracket that picks up the hole above as well.

Yes, this appears to be the only real design flaw with this truck. I’ve put a single spacer in now and it still bends the bolt slightly..... it’s a pretty heavy truck with all the metalwork. There’s a mount on the top of the axle that I’m going to switch to but it means drilling a hole in the upper wheel arch that I didn’t really want to do but looks like I’ll have to

The spacers don't add any strength to that setup, and that is why the screw is bending.

If you use a solid threaded link instead, it will strengthen the whole length of the screw when tightened down. I would also screw it in from the inside of the mounting bracket, then the threaded rod, the shock and then a nylock nut. The link I listed would probably need to be cut down a little, but shouldn't to hard to do.

Beautiful truck!

I hope my RC4WD C2X is half as nice when I am done with it...

RC4WD used to make those Ballistic shocks, released about 6 years ago - there's a very few left (RPP Hobby has 1 pair!), looks like all that can actually be found are the caps - they made them in blue or black and there's a note stating:

"Features
These are made to fit the Dual Spring shocks. To match colors, use X-0408, X-0106, X-0107 and X-0405."

I did a quick job of putting a LWB interior in, it needs some more time spending on it but it’s better than seeing a battery and wiring.

Xtraspeed recently released some scale locking hubs, $15 for 4 including the tool. I thought it was a bargain and couldn’t help myself. Another sunny day too so couldn’t help taking a few snaps with the DSLR

I can’t get enough of this thing. What a shame they won’t be making any more. Awesome that you were able to get one. Thanks for the great photos.
