Another belated build recap for the RCRun Run80 that I worked on earlier this year. I had wanted to get my first hard body build done for RC4WD's Go Scale Day on May 1st. I decided to choose something uncommon and go with a very uncommon chassis. The RCRun Run80. It's a very scale looking chassis, and the biggest worry was that I'd only be able to get parts from overseas. Decided to bite the bullet anyways, because it was a really unique platform and had all the scale looks. After building it, I've come to find that I love the way the chassis moves. It's really heavy, but it also gives it a realistic sway and bounce out on the trails. I'm still not done with it as far as scaling it out goes, but I'll get around to it. Follow my RCRun Run80 build on YouTube Many of the following links are to eBay where you can find the stuff I used. Part 1: Axle & Transmission Grease Check So with this kit, there isn't really much to assemble overall. The axles are mostly assembled, and the transmission is mostly assembled as well. You really need to just put together the suspension, add electronics, and mount everything up to the chassis. I decided to take a look at the parts that had gears to make sure that they were properly greased. These are the parts I'll be inspecting for grease ![]() First inspection was the axles. ![]() ![]() Axles come with CVDs ![]() Next up for grease check is the transmission... ![]() Yup... it's bone dry. We'll have to do something about that. ![]() Greased it up with my trusty Versachem brake caliper grease ![]() Now let's take a look at the tranfer case. ![]() Yup... it's dry too. ![]() Greased the transfer case up too. ![]() Was originally going to put a Hobbywing Fusion in this rig ![]() It's easy enough to mount into the transmission ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the problem though, this kit comes with a nice scale pulley/belt and fan system. If you plan to use it, you won't be able to fit the Hobbywing Fusion. I decided to just stick with a brushed setup and go with a Hobbywing Quicrun 1080 and a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Sport 13T ![]() Last edited by soze; 11-02-2021 at 02:28 PM. |

Part 2: Mounting Transmission So... the printed instructions are terrible. Like absolutely terrible. You'll just need to feel your way through the build as well as you can with the provided printed instructions. Supposedly there is a video that shows some stuff maybe? I didn't end up using it though. ![]() Here is the chassis frame. It's really scale and shaped like an actual LC80 frame. ![]() Each kit has its own serial number identification ![]() Let's start figuring out how to mount this transmission to the frame. First you'll need these. ![]() And you put them on like this ![]() ![]() Next you'll need this part. Notice how there are 2 screws already on the transmission housing. I was searching through all the bags for the correct screws for this step, only to find that they were already on the transmission housing. This will happen a few times. If you don't see the screw in the bag, it might already be installed somewhere. ![]() Anyway that part goes here ![]() Next you mount up the transmission to the chassis using those mounts you just installed. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Part 3: Mounting Axles I completely don't remember every step taken, but basically it was just a combination of figuring out the correct screws for the correct links to put in the correct spots. I like that the suspension for this chassis resembles the 1:1 and that it's different from all the other linked and leafed suspension setups out there. The only other rig I know that has this kind of setup is the now discontinued RC4WD Cross Country (that rig was really short lived! Jeep issues methinks!) First we start with putting on the spring perches and link mounts ![]() Here are the front links ![]() Here is the rear axle with the spring perches and link mounts on ![]() ![]() ![]() Yes that's right, this rig has a front AND rear panhard ![]() Links for the rear axle. What's that??!!! A missing bushing! Ugggh... I eventually got this replaced after contacting Asiatees customer service. Kudos to Asiatees for working with RCRun to get the missing parts I needed. ![]() Front and rear axles mounted up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

So I was working on this Toyota LC80 Land Cruiser build for several weeks in order to get it done for RC4WD's Go Scale day. I didn't get it completely done, but I still ran it anyway. Unfortunately the pin in the left front CVD axle popped out and I lost 4WD early in the day. I had to 3WD it for the rest of the day, and I was just digging ditches in the dirt due to how heavy the rig is. Enjoy anyway though! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wow, what a cool looking rig! Looks very scale! I'll have to go back and watch the build vids. The running vids that I did see look really cool. ![]() |

Absolutely incredible, love seeing this separate coil/shock setup super-scale build! Drives really nice, too... ![]() |

I have been eyeing one of these chassis for a while, how has it held up? My only concern is lack of available replacement parts of things like diff gears (any drivetrain gears really) or links that look to be cast metal or CV's that type of thing.. but even with no replacement parts... it is still very tempting .. have you had to fab any replacement parts up yet?
