Started a new off-road truggy . the last one turned out pretty good but too heavy so this ones all aluminum welded up. he scale on this one is also much closer than the last. I will be using a tlt rear axle and custom front suspension all hand made in the shop. i am also goingto try a direct drive setup with a brushless outrunner.

with a mig welder! yeah its not easy if you haven't ever done it but once you get the hang of it its cake.

TOYUTAH 05-25-2007 09:15 AM

I doubt it was a mig, most migs only do steel and even with the kit to do alum. they suck! I'd say a tig and they're TOUGH! Anyways... sweet build man, that's a pretty clean frame!

Got a little more doe all i need is shock mounts and thee rear susp is done

theshimonator 05-25-2007 10:23 AM

what are the lick tyres off? btw nice tuber so far

Thorsteenster 05-25-2007 10:26 AM

WTF?? man, you ought to work on the shock mounting a little
it would look much better moving the shocks back onto to the axle which should lower the upper mount to about the top of the frame. your not mounting the shocks sticking way up like that are you??

its a great looking frame you got, i think the shocks like that would just funk it up.

braceysdad 05-25-2007 10:36 AM

VERY cool looking so far. What's the weight?

sniper 05-25-2007 11:01 AM

the top off the shocks will be mounted bleow the top of the frame dont worry..The chassis weighs about a half pound right now but i got to get out my better scake that weighs in grams to get a closer number. The slicks are from a 1/8 scale gas powered go kart that Kyosho made in the early 90's i think.

superelmer 05-25-2007 11:11 AM

lookin' good..

what are the trailing arms made of? kinda looks like aluminum c channel. i was thinking of using that myself, but the teflons haven't broken yet, and if ain't broke....

i would suggest putting the shocks in the trailing arms, in line with the ball ends. if they're gonna stay off to the side like that, they will cause the arms to rotate, and possibly bind...if they are just there for mock ups, ignore that last sentence!

sniper 05-25-2007 11:40 AM

the rear arms are 1/4" in thick solid aluminum milled down the shocks will probably stay there not sure yet but i am concerned with trying to rotate the trailing arm so i milled a pocket were the shocks mount to try to get them on center of the arm... will see how they work.

ctcballer26 05-25-2007 02:43 PM

Very nice! Are you trying to replicate any particular Class 1's?

STANG KILLA SS 05-25-2007 03:09 PM

i think your gonna find the savage shocks to be TOO long. ive been down that road before. may try cen shocks i think there around 5 to 5.5"
or a set of runnin2jeeps 120mm shocks

The rear is done . I am going to try the Savage shocks but may go with a shorter one later. I also made a nifty little axle mount for the four link . The battery is only there for a little pre load on the suspension . I will get a better place for it before its done. Right now the rear suspension cycles 4.750" but probably put some straps on it to get more like 3 or 3.5" before its done.

slobin3d 05-26-2007 03:34 PM

if the savage shocks are to big, try the WK shocks, same look but a hair shorter"thumbsup"

Its almost a roller . I am using some old school RC10 front arms for now but they seem to work well in this setup but i still might make some longer custom arms later. There is no steering setup yet I will be working on that next. The rear shocks are a little long but i have some 5 inchers i'll try out.

Looks like its coming around great :)
