| CJ-7...my first crawler build.
Just got this today...won it on eBay a little while ago. My dad had one IDNETICAL to this back in the 80s...he always had a thing for Jeeps, and we built a pretty swanky '82 CJ7 (304, 727, D300, etc etc) back in the day. I was thinking of decking this out like the CJ, and maybe giving it to him for Father's Day or his birthday next year. I'm tentatively planning on TLT axles and a 'pede transmission. It's not going to be terribly detailed, but I WOULD like it to have leaves, and I don't want to go much bigger than the 2 3/4" tall tires it has now. Any suggestions, lemme have'em! till then, here's some pics of the virgin body donor! 8" wheelbase! yikes! |

I've got the same truck. TLT axles are going to be wide. Try to get a set of those Rc4wd 44's. You have even neen some wheels with a offset to still bring in the Track Width. Aim for a 3.7in Tall 1.9 Tire. Also a Pede Is never going to fit with out Ditching the seats and floor. Rc4wd also has a Transfer Case you can run. Hide the Pede Tranny under the hood. Just things to look into. That Jeep is very Small. Or better yet. Get a 1.9 Losi Crawler for the running gear and Electronics. |

Yeah, it's tiny. the D44s from RC4wd are a bit pricey. I've had a TLT so I kinda know what I'm getting into, ditto with the pede. Good call though putting the pede tranny under the hood, I hadn't thought of that. It'll be scale, but not perfect. it'll be a runner for my dad to run around and chase the dogs more than anything:P a 3.7" tire would probably be more "scale" because of the TLT axle width though, so that may be the way to go. Not afraid to do a little trimming Thanks for the advice! |
