Toyota Hilux 4x4 I'm sure your all tired of seeing my builds, but I have another one, and I will be finishing this one (RIP the blazer:-(). I picked this gem up off T1, It was for sale before MOAB and I wanted it then but needed money for the trip...I thought for sure it would be gone by the time I came back, then TJ reposted it, so I PM'd him and he agreed to hold it for me while I scrapped some cash together. I have wanted a hilux for a long time, but there always out of my price range :-( I have one many years ago, but it was before ebay was big and it was missing lots of parts so I sold but now today, I have one in my hands  Here is how I got it http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux002.jpg Tires were dry rotted so I swapped them for the ones off of my XJ since that has some saweet trail doctors on it now, got them mounted up...looking better already http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux004.jpg One thing that drove me nuts is that Hiluxs didn't come stock with shocks...or at least as memory serves me, they didn't. I am pretty sure they were a "hop-up". Another member posted a saweet link in my XJ thread to another forum showing how to make TLT shocks out of stock tlt parts, so I had to it a try... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux006.jpg Had to shorten them a little bit, have a cool mini pipe cutter and cut it down http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux008.jpg Then you cut the threads down some on one of the stock links, and cut the bottom part of a stock rod end to make the piston. I put a little bit of glue on the threads and screwed it on. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux009.jpg Then, I glued the rest of the cut rod end into the top and pinch the cylinder slightly as well http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux011.jpg I then cut the threads down on the opposite side and used a traxxas shock end In the end, they look awesome I think...there strictly cosmetic and have no dampening to them at all...I put a lil grease in them just to keep the piston moving easily http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux012.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux013.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux015.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux016.jpg Last but not least, a fresh chino mount from RCP was dropped in http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...x/hilux007.jpg thats it so far, stay tuned for more "thumbsup" |
"thumbsup" Lucky!!! I'll be following this for sure! |
Are you going to use the original water proof box? Nice score. "thumbsup" I've always liked those Hilux cabs better since they don't have as many screw holes in em, ie, to the bed, nerf bars. |
and i just got rid of mine.nice start. |
They came with shocks. Well, at least what looked like shocks. They held oil for a few minutes.:-( Then the table held the oil. |
this will be another awesome build mike! always nice to see a hilux build. there is a 1:1 runnin around here in guam that i always drool at! |
Glad you used the shocks! they look amazing! |
I think you need to spend less time working on new junk, and more time finishing your laundry I can smell it from here... hahaha nice to see you getting another classic. |
Wow mike, for someone who doesnt spend that money on stuff for rc, you sure do have a lot of CHIT!!!!! Looks like you are gonna have to take that god awful looking bed off and TRUGGIFIE that mofo......you know since the hilux has the cab back and all. good score on the truck BTW."thumbsup" |

good luck on choosing the color for that body bro. that's why i gave it up to you!! lol. you planning on losing the bed on the hilux? |

Hilux bed is staying, I am kinda partial to the step side, I think that what separates the hilux from the Bruiser/Mountaineer look. |
