LR3 scale trail rig Update new shoes

Since I moved from the rocks of Austin to the swamp of Houston I wanted to start a new rig with trail running in mind. This is what I came up with.

1:10 Newbrite LR3
riegn k2-3s scale chassis
RC4WD 1.9 Slingers
High lift stocker wheels
Locked TLT axles
Locked pede
RC4WD straight axle adapters out back
Aluminum knuckles up front
Chassis mounted steering
Stock TLT shocks
For trail wheel speed a 27turn with mid gearing
And a load of my scale goodies

With orders out to most every vendor we have available this is what I mocked up.

A few days later...............

My axles fell victim to the dremel much cleaner look to em now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...3/LR3/rear.jpg

And a few more days..............

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...3/DSC_1608.jpg

Rear bodymount and radio box The bodymount plate material is overkill but its tough and what I had on hand.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...3/DSC_1614.jpg

The steering arrangement at center right and left travel I still need to trim the axle case bolts to let the knucles travel the rest of the throw.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...3/DSC_1611.jpg

I slapped together a front shock mount and finished mounting my links I still have a little tweaking to get the WB correct and center the axles better but its getting there.
The ride will drop a bit when I get the bumpers rock rails and the electrical gear loaded its a little high for my taste.

Not bad flex for a scale trail truck.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...LR3/flex-1.jpg

and the obligatory topless shot.

A few days later again......

I figured Id make a bumper for this rig. Got ARB ?

Sorry for the quality my wifes out of town and she took the camera this is just cell phone pics.

I started out with this pic as a idea and a pile of brass plate.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r-rockroad.jpg

And now we have this.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...in73/LR3/3.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...in73/LR3/2.jpg

I still need to mount it to the chassis and finish trimming the body to fit a little more close and also mount my lights and roller fairlead.

I had a chance last night to mount it all up and take her for a test run with the electrics just ziptied to the chassis plate. Lets just use the comment Ripper used "So this is going to be a Dakar LR3 right lol" I have to feather the throttle on launch on a high traction surface. Even with the battery and most of the radio gear mounted in the front it will pull a wheelstand and carry it like a damm WK:shock:. I think Im going to gear down alot before I try it in rough terrain. I was surprised at the lack of torque twist and body roll I seem to have managed to hit the setup on the mark the first time:-o.
Today Im going to try to clean up the wiring and mount the inner fenderwells and maybe sleve the links if I have time.

Comments pls.

Looks good, I like it. It's something you don't see a lot of around here. The body seems a little high, but when the truck flexes the tire tuck is almost perfect. I'd say maybe drop it like a 1/2 inch and I think it'd be perfect!"thumbsup"

That looks real good. I really like the body. Is it staying that color?

ColquittCustom405 12-02-2007 08:44 AM

ColquittCustom405 12-02-2007 08:46 AM

Can we get pictures of that black rig in the background?

Very nice build. K2 chassis always make a kiiler rig.

AustinCrawls 12-02-2007 09:10 AM

With all the gear loaded and a battery it sits at the right ride hieght now.
Again sorry for the quality my wife and her good camera are due back today so Ill take better pics then.

looks good man. like the steering setup also. is that a stock tlt cantilever for sway arm?

Col_Sanders 12-02-2007 09:17 AM

Those both look damn good!

You could spray that chassis with some black paint to help hide it.:)

This is an amazing build.

I thought those LR3 bodies where really narrow? Would you mind shooting some rear or front on shots? I'm curious how the axles fit under it.

Well done!!!!

The fender flares sit just outside of the centerline on the tires so maybe 3/8ths" on each side is sticking out.

PinchFlat 12-02-2007 12:51 PM

Sweet build.. I too though the LR3 was to narrow.
