| Campbell Buggy Rock Racer
Well after driving the crap out of the Campbell Buggy I built for Turtle I decided that I had to have one. Rock racers have to be the most fun I've had in a long time with any of the crawlers. Go fast is just so much more fun and entertaining than going slow 100% of the time. The gold for this build is to be BEEF. It's not only got to look good, but it's going to get driven extremely hard and need to take a beating with no problems. Here are the specs as of now, but they could change as the build progresses. Campbell Chassis - Designed and built by me, 3/16" solid steel rod mig and tig welded together. 14" wb Mad Force Axles - Yes...BEEF. They will be narrowed down to the width of axial axles and run 2.2 wheels. Wheels are undecided, the new MSD 4-Dyce's would sure look good though. HINT HINT.;) 2.2 Rock Crushers or 2.2 Rock Stompers Pede Tranny - All metal gears with a slipper (mandatory). 2.5 Maxx shafts Shocks are still undecided. I'm thinking something along the lines of a 3" shock ran at full sprung. Any ideas of something around this size would be welcome. Mamba Max 5700 System Castle BEC E-Moli 3 cell 12 volt and a123 3 cell 9.9 volts battery packs. TP 995 Steering Servo - Cheap and crappy, but super strong gears. Will get upgraded later. Monster Blitzer Beetle Driver Here are some pics of were it's at as of now. Hopefully it will be done in time for Scale Nats so I can use it as my 2.2 Scaler. |

| Tuber comp rigs aren't allowed, tubers in general aren't banned. My PSC Bruiser and my Hulk F-150 are both 100% tubers and Ben said they were just fine. I think the difference is whether you build it to perform or build it to replicate a 1:1. The Hustler was built to perform, this is built to replicate a 1:1 which is what "scale" means. At least that's the impression I got from the rules, I could be completely wrong though. I'll have to ask Ben, thanks for bringing that up though J. |

just curious what dog bones you are going to run in the mad force axles. I am working on a 2.2 rock racer with Twin axles right now.

It will get finished in time for Scale Nats anyways and compete in the Rock Race on Sunday. That's what it's meant for anyways. | |

| I was pretty much the only one who was making progress on the chassis, three at a time takes me a while. Tim worked on figuring out how to make everything work on a 12.5" wb with some claws instead of the 14" wb with crushers. We think we got it all figured out though. He wants it to be a "do all" rig that can compete in the 2.2 comp class, the rock racing class, and the scaler class. I go take some pics right now.

Chassis are about done. Just 2 bars left on the shock hoops, some link/shock mounting tabs, and body panel tabs left....and then smoothing all of the welds. |

| Well, before I made the first chassis I designed it all in solidworks, then I can print out planes and kinda have outlines of how tubes need to get bent, but other than that it is all done hand. Each bend is hand bent around a socket clamped to my work bench and all of the tubes are fitted and welded by hand, no jigs or anything. So it takes a while to built each chassis. if I was to make another one I would definitely need to make some jigs to help with bending and placement of the tubes for welding. All of the bending by hand is just too tedious and time consuming, let along getting all of the tube lined up right for welding. Needless to say I'm definitely burnt out on building chassis's for now. |

| A big Miller mig welder. Not sure on the exact model, I love it though. The occasional tig welding is also done on a big Miller tig welder, again, not sure on the model but I also love it. |
