Default ~The Scale Shop~ 2008 Scale Nationals Rubicon 2.2 Tuber Build

well this is my entry for the 2.2 class for montana. i simply did not have the time to the tube work this time so i contracted one of the best on the forum, Double J. i started as always in cad, and sent him full size 2d and 3d plans for everything, and a chassis, body, and all the tube/chassis mount tabs pre waterjeted for him. he did an excellent job. after seeing Mikeys rubi tuber over a year ago i always wanted one like it. and it didnt take long for this build to be dubbed "the dream jeep" between me and Jason.

parts list:
TLTs
TSS Chassis
TSS TJ Grill
TSS Hi Lift Jack
TSS Billet Warn xd9000i winch
TSS Fairlead
Double J Tube work
RC4WD R2
RC4WD 2.2 stompers
RPP beadlocks with narrow rings
HPI rubi body
Turned down TLT shocks
Tubular rear axle armor/link mount by Jeff
LEDs
interior if time....

the plans

the Double J tube work!

with the TSS chassis

here you can sorta see some of the tabs i sent.

mock up body.

It needs some bigger tube fenders.

Looks sweet though, I like it!

I'm with this guy. I'd lose the top and the doors. Or atleast the top and the windows. Just my .02 though.. Chassis looks great.

thats the mock up body fellas ;)
the entire roof, windows, and rear section will all be hacked off ;)
i left them intact so that the body would remain "square" for the tube process and a good fit.

well allitle progress. tube work is powdercoated grey/silver. got the body hacked up, and the grill mocked in place. due to a slight over sight in the plans i drew (puting the front bar right behind the fuggin headlight holes ) i wont be able to run the reflector buckets and LEDs i had ready to go and will have to settle for a shitty sticker. :-(

Thumbs up

Looks amazing I love the tubework that JJ did on it and the TSS grill really sets the body off

Just cut the cross member out right where the light buckets will go and bend a tight "u" to re-brace the cutout section.

Looks sick! I hate everyone that has their Rubicon body in posession, I'm still waiting on mine! :-P

Sweet frame man! I look forward to seeing this thing in Montana!

Funny about the bar behind the headlight area, Since Ive pretty much got my rig done I noticed that I kinda did the same thing. I didnt plan on my rig being scale but as I built it I started adding all the scale goodness and then I recently went to add head lights and ran into the same problem. So I just made a winch bumper like thing with 4 headlight bezzles inbedded in the bumper! Maybe this could work for you as well?? I added a pic so you could see the bumper.

Dang it doesn't look as silvery as it does in person.. :(

Still looks really good.

I think you can get a front lense and some small led to shine through. just cut a flat rear reflector out of aluminum and polish it.?
