Shaun Goes Scale....

I'm starting on my first scale rig, a Jeep Rubicon.

I plan on doing and interior some some scale goodies on the outside.

Here is what I have planned.
Mocrawler soft top
AX-10 axles
Clocked wheelyking trans
TSC wheel nut covers
A crappy 2ch radio I have laying around.
Moped ESC
JR ST126MG servo, mounted on chassis
Proline eight shooter black beadlocks
Axial Rock lizards
RC4WD 90mm dual spring scale shocks
35T motor

For color I'm going with the same colors as our old TJ, red with black fender flares, and a black soft top.

I don't have to much yet, I have the body, dash, and a head full of ideas.

This is the dash so far, I know it doesn't look very good :( It looks weird in the picture, it looks nothing like that in 1:1 view.

I'm going to be painting that body as soon as the bad weather stops and I can get the el camino out of the garage.

Here are the plans for seats, rear bumper, and chassis. I can't really plan anything else till I get my chassis cut.

All really simple stuff.

Imagine the chassis with 1/2 inch added to it, and the center bar across the top gone.

Sorry for the crappy shackles, lol.

And the crappy seats.

I know, I normally don't write like that, but these were all made at that magical 3:00am when just really don't give a shit what your writing looks like.

I'm left handed, its hard as hell to write.

sooo your building a truck around a dash?
lol thats the last thing i usually work on :D

Shaun 06-17-2008 03:51 PM

I have been planning the truck for a little while. I didn't have my chassis built yet, so I started the dash. I'm working on the seats now. And my chassis supplies are about to arrive.

I'm going to try and go to hobby town tomorrow and get some paint.

I don't have the money for the axles right now, so I can't do links or anything.

I have the trans clocked
Dash done
seats need to be shaped and have the fabric put over them.

It really sucks being broke :(

Shaun 06-17-2008 07:41 PM

The seats, of course they look like crap IMO. I can't do anything right :(

Those aren't bad at all, maybe you could figure out some way to stitch them up like a real one!

IMO, The seats would look a lot more scale if you put more foam around the edges, so they look more like bucket seats.

Shaun 06-18-2008 05:11 PM

I know thats what I should have done, the way I did it was the simplest way I knew, just use styrene for the back, foam rubber for the foam and shave it down.

I wanted to do the foam on the sides, but then I would have had to get glue to glue the fabric to the foam. I just used hot glue on the backs of the seats.

I might make another set later, these took nearly 4 hours to make though so I really don't feel like redoing them.

Also, you will barely be able to see these inside the truck.

he does have a very good point...we dont have chit here to crawl on..we have to dig like 6ft under to find sum rocks and make a big pile to crawl on :P

smm_cbf 06-18-2008 08:07 PM

ya, ill are trail areas are ether in the woods, in water, or a pile of dirt:-(

Shaun 06-19-2008 12:59 PM

I got the chassis drawn out. Trans clocked, and got bored so I polished up the motor mount.

You gotta squint to see the chassis.

After I get the chassis cut tonight I'll be able to mount the body, paint, and finish the interior. The way its looking I might have it going by our next comp.

breitenbach14 06-19-2008 10:16 PM

i know its not on the subject but cool micro t"thumbsup" and for seats that i mabe i just got foam board foam from a old set of inserts "axials" and hot glued it and put cloth from a bandana over it ,they are camo:lol:

Shaun 08-07-2008 11:26 PM

Thanks"thumbsup"

Here it is, I have only been working on it a few hours and this is everything that got done, Hope fully my axles will arrive tomorrow night, I'm cutting everything really close, seeing as we have a comp on Saturday, and my comp rig still needs some attention before then. I can if I believe I can I guess.

Right now, I'm not paying to much attention to detail(except on the body) I'm just trying to get it running. After the scale run I'll tear it all down and build it up the right way"thumbsup"

Here is the work I got down in a few hours tonight, I would like to thank mississippirocs for the frame rails and servo and DARKHORSE for the Rubicon body, and Rockedup Ricky for the tires.

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...zzzzzzzz-6.jpg

I still need to add a few decals
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...zzzzzzzz-5.jpg

Tomorrow night my TLT axles should be here.

I still have to find a body mounting solution
