Default Hemtt M985 in 1:10

My friend Colin is building this for me

First of all ,
I'ld like to send a Big Thank You to V-Force and Jugg2driver.

Their threads are not only a great inspiration to this build, but very informative as well!

Thank you for the great reading.

So, this here is a Hemtt M985 with the smaller material handling system as used on various Hemtt's.
It is a vehicle desired and produced for Storm4710.
He has comissioned me to complete a functioning M985 w/ the crane.

The plan;
-KB45 brushless motor
-Mamba Max ESC
-3S LiPo power of the Hextronik 4100mah variety
-an R2 2 speed
-modified TLT axles for that euro lock/unlock mod.
-Towerpro 200 Oz. servos all around, steering and boom functions
-2.2 crushers on custom wheels

More to come, and I can use all the help you guys can muster!

I thought of the skeltal construction, but thought it may be more challanging, and there's enough of that coming!

I used a mix of 2mm/.080 , 1mm/.040 , and .5mm/.020 so far.
The 2mm is nice to add recesses, like the panel lines and the door handle cut out. I used a 1/4" chissel to cut a flat in the rectagular recess and added layers of .5mm to build a handle, then trimed windows and frames in .5mm.

I utilized the easier cuting 1mm on the panel sections that needed cutting after being adheared onto the cab.
The roof is removable for cab access and has yet to get alignment pegs. I'm going to use ...? a mix of peg and the rear windows to secure it. Depending on the owners wishes , it may get the doors cut all the way through and a set of piano hinges.

Consider it done,....just give me some time....hehe

The blueprint I sourced at theblueprints.com ?
I resized to spec after cropping a cab dimension with irfanview.

I no longer have to print 4 sets to get it right the first time, after much practice. Just crop close to cab or width dimensions and find the neccessary aspect ratio for the desired width. A page will only go 8" wide so you'll need to figure out a crop size to peice together the propper width and keep all your cropped images the same dimensions that are from the same source, after knowing the w x h pixel count the aspect ratio will be the same for all prints, (off the same original).
If you can't get the width in one page , refferance the height, and be sure the width doesn't over grow whats printable without stretching or scewing the print.

Man I don't know how many times I've looked at that rear end,....hehe,....and said ,..blah...

"If they can do it in 1:50....."

Hey again a thank you to supporters...

Here's an update on the cab interior and some reference pics to the wheel choice. I chose this 2.2 (Duratrax, Maximum ST?) for the major off set. The outer appearance will get the full attention. Just so happens, it nailed the stance.....

Tlt axles are on their way to http://www.der-getriebedoktor.de/shop2/
to get a conversion , for the lock/unlock diff.s.....

Thanks guys!

Danish, Dutch, all us RC guys look the same to me.....hehe

My bad...

I'm shooting to make this Hemtt similar to a 1:16 Man from
http://www.afv-model.com
I'm very impressed with the Man's functioning bed, and just pitcure the 78mm? tire beside a 137mm tire...
The tires look good on the print,...a little bigger in diameter and width.
We're talking a scale measure of, 42mm wide to 47mm, and 132 to 137mm height. I don't see the need to reduce or narrow, we could remove a lug and remove 5mm from the center....but I believe when you add the front shield and see the length of it , the tires will get consumed.

If a Toyota or Ford cab can make 41" tires look scale, we won't have a problem....

Please feel free to critique. That's how we continue to build better trucks...

I can't wait to get on with the engine bay and bed.
It's all going to ride on a steel C channel, probably being assembled in sections; cab and engine bay, bed sections and sides, then the boom section.
I'm going to Cad up the frame with Google Sketchup , to assist in the component placement, helping me see the clearances before hand.

I'm already picturing the motor as a direct attachment to the RC4WD 2 speed, centered mounting,...
or contemplating that, versus, motor in the engine bay to a disconnected 2 speed with a centered mounting position...?
If you can picture the weight distribution of a KB45 over the front axles, versus the second option , being center weighted...?
Keeping in mind, 1 servo for steering , at least 3 for the boom functions, 1 for the 2 speed, and 1 for the axle disconnect.
That's a lot of large servos to hide, not to mention control linkages?
A 77x45mm motor , but I have a 40" blueprint to match this beast.

20 pages in 2 months,...let's do it!

Thanks Man!

The slam locks?...

The side of the cab started as 1 piece of 2mm, then cut out the door lines with a utility knife and a thin metal machinist's rule. The door handle ? first got scribed then a 1/4" chisel dug out about 1.5mm, then, a little piece of .5mm to hold the 1mm handle, the whole door got a layer of .5mm , to simulate a door skin up to the windows, and last , it got wrapped with .5mm trim.

Chiseling out a recess is new to me, and I Love it...as well as using a layer overlapping the door jamb reveal/gap , really cleaning up the look of a shadowed recess.
The doors eventually got cut all the way through, and it looks like I'll have to make a piano hinge like V-Force did. I'ld like to keep the diameter small, but need a strong hinge too...It appears the 1:50 models hide a hinge inside the door , I've done that on a Landy shell, but would like to get the swing of an outer set hinge...

That hood is stringers/forms and .5mm. I had to add trusses? to the ceiling to keep it flat.

Just used a Motrin bottle to form the air intake drum...pic.s soon...
