| Modder's '86 GMC Sierra build.
Currently, I'm working on building a GMC Sierra out of a clod body. First, I was going to do a Silverado, but after seeing that so many people have done that, I wanted something different. Something that not just anyone could make. I looked around to see if anyone had ever converted one to a GMC. After much searching, I found HawnMT's "Fall Guy" truck on this site. That convinced me that it was possible and the rest was history. I almost have the grill totally converted now, but here is a recap. |

First I cut lines in the 4x4x4 emblem over the grill slots with a rotary tool equipped with a cut off disk. It cuts quickly and easily, so I had to be careful as I widened and deepened the slots until it matched the grill bars. Then I took a pair of flush cutters and trimmed the emblem sections down close to the bars. Next, I sanded the emblem remnants flush to the rest of the grill. I finished sanding the grill(also scratch up the chrome to help the paint adhere), then I used an air compressor to blow off all bits of dust and debris. I stripped it off... ...and painted it. Upon removing the tape, I found that it had turned out pretty good(alot better than the picture ). I made cross bars out of some spare styrene I had lying around. Then I glued them on and used some chrome tape, that my brother had bought for a recent project,to cover the grill frame. All that's left to be done on the grill is adding the emblem. Anyone know of where I can get a 1/10 GMC emblem or sticker for the grill or tailgate? (credit for removing the 4x4x4 emblem goes to HawnMT for telling me how to do it. Thanks, Hawn!) |

I like the grill. Here's one I modded into a newer GMC grill using a USA-1 grill. http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...es/ebay016.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...es/ebay017.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...es/ebay020.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m...es/ebay021.jpg And a lexan shell w/ GMC grill another lexan body, but I didn't do this one! |

Great job on the grille.. I was going to do a "how to" but this covers it. What components are you using for the rest of the truck? This is already starting off great, can't wait to see more.

Thanks. I have: Motor:Johnson silver can All of the clod body except the main body and window. I plan to use: ESC:base model Novak or Futaba Reciever:Futaba 2 channel am 75mhz Transmission:looking into Axial ax10 tranny Axles:TLT-1 axles Frame:custom Driveshafts:rc4wd punisher Springs:high lift leafs Shocks:haven't decided yet Tires:probably Imex "G Hawg", or HPI Geolandar Wheels:possibly rpm revolvers One thing I'm wondering is; the ax10 gearbox has no cover for the pinion and spur that I'm aware of. Has anyone had any problem with debris getting into the gears? Also has anyone modded it to allow a cover to be fitted? It looks well made and would work with my plans very well, but I'm concerned that I'll have problems with the coverless design. Last edited by the Mad Modder; 08-20-2008 at 11:19 AM. |

I have the paint scheme picked out. (without the top on the bed) I will be going with 1.9 high lift tires and wheels from the Highlift Hilux. Yeah, I know I should have thought about the size before I started this thread, but some decisions are hard to make. Last edited by the Mad Modder; 09-09-2008 at 06:09 AM. |

Well, I'm back on the road to having a scale truck. Yesterday morning, I ordered parts for tlt axles. I also bought a sheet of printable vinyl, so I'll have to see how that works out for emblems and such. Tower still doesn't have main clod bodies or windows in stock. I have a feeling that it'll be a while til I have those parts.

Grill came out nicely. I was gonna paint my k5 body like that, but reverse the light and dark. |

| What do you guys think of the custom blower filters? Although it isn't really visible in the pic, the top plates on the filters are chrome. |

I want I want I want no really how much would you charge to convert mine. I have seen a couple gmc grille's on here but they was always sold befor i could get them. I have a 82GMC had a 72 long story though and have been wanting to do my 2.2 like it but in a 4x4 sed of street. Is this a serious question that is like 80's era hot rod monster truck look he has going on there. Quote:

I'd be willing to sell you my existing grill for $20 (includes shipping). It looks exactly like the pic on the bottom of post #2. It'd be less expensive than having me convert yours. Plus, making another grill for my truck would give me something to do while I'm waiting for Tower to get the other parts I need back in stock. | What's wrong with the modified look? I'm using 3.7 inch high lift tires. That's an equivalent of 37 inch tires, which isn't terribly stock either.
