So, I'm a little bored these days, and the flatbed is getting a little too old and rusty for my taste. I've been contemplating a new build for awhile, and I think it's time.
This is my inspiration, I saw it in Crawl mag awhile back.

My buddy has a '72 Bronco, and being the nice guy that he is, he climbed under it one night with a tape measure. I also found this picture of an aftermarket replacement frame that some company makes,

and used the measurements to make this.

It's 1/2" tube that I ripped in half slightly off center, and took the narrower pieces and soldered them together to make 3/8" by 1/2 inch tube, which is just about perfect for the frame tubes.
I also had my buddy measure some of the body parts on his Bronco, and figured out that the HPI Bronco body is between 1/8th and 1/9th scale...in fact it's 1/8.58th scale :).
I plan to narrow the front of the body to 4", and taper it back to 6" wide at the doors. The stock width is about 7", so it'll be just a tad narrower. The rear of the frame will be 1/4" and 3/16" tubing. It'll have a full interior, and a transfer case with the motor and tranny under the hood. I'll use the Losi Carvers, which will scale out to around 44". This thing is going to be big, in fact, it's around 18"long, and 9" tall. It'll have a track width of around 10" and have 3 1/4" of belly clearance.

I don't know about a masterpiece, but it should be cool.

So I already have this build posted on ORCRC, and Ben saw the first fuzzy pic of the red Bronco, and informed me that the guy that owns it lives down the street from him. He said that the owner could stop by his shop and Ben could get a bunch of shots of it.

Guess what I said........YEP!
What are the chances of finding a truck (from California no less) to base a build off of, and then having a friend in Montana that knows the current owner....crazy.....so here it is.

So my truck will be based of this truck, with the main differences being the truck frame in the front, and no rear steer on my scaler.

This is the Bronco buggy that the previous owner of the red Bronco is currently building, I'll use some ideas from it too.

You always build bad ass stuff. Subscribed for sure. I can't wait to see what you do. What motor and trans do you plan to use? What about axle type? What do you plan to use for power? This is going to be good:shock:"thumbsup".

Axial transmission mounted under the hood going to a transfer case (so I can have a full interior)

Axial with all the goodies. 3-link with panhard bar front and rear, just because I think it looks badass.

Some kind of puller motor, or 35t handwound on 3-cell lipo. It should be pretty good.

Another little update.
Got the rear 3-link crossmember redone, there wasn't room for the rear driveline with the rectangular tubing, so I had to make a new one. Plus, I made a diff bracket to hold the top link, the shocks, and the panhard bar.

Also made the rear "bumper" with taillight housings, and winch point. Also silver soldered the frame panhard bar mount on.

Had to build a custom motor mount to give me clearance for the top link on the front suspension
It also gave me alot more room up there, and put the weight of the motor farther forward.

that second blue 1:1 looks sweet as hell. for a ford.
is that solid rod?

All the links will be solid stainless when it's all done, threaded rod is for mock up only. It will have a transfer case, like this one.

WOW, how much would that weigh if it were solid?

The tubing is DOM hydraulic line. It's some fancy German stuff, bends very nice, no coating so it is nice to silver solder, and is very tough. My buddy Dennis has a bunch at work that he brought me, I may have to go search some out for future builds, it's really nice.

yeah i didnt think you would use solid rod, but by the pics i could definatly tell it wasnt brake line.

Some people are so talented and you are definitely one of them:shock:"thumbsup". The tranny mount and motor mount are genius. Did you make the transfer case yourself or is that available through a vendor? Way too cool build and you are just getting started.
