Most of the dimensions are scaled down pretty close to 1:7.5, alot closer to scale proportion than many 1:10 bodies I've seen.

I got this body from another member here, and it is big. The wheels and tires in the pics are borrowed from my Comp Crawler, but I'm looking to get tires that are about the same size as the rovers, but more scale looking.

I'd like to put a sub box in the trunk, I've got the perfect one already picked out:



It fits perfectly in the back area, and the speakers actually look scale. Plus it's bluetooth capable, so I can hold the iPod in my pocket and control the music remotely. It's got it's own rechargeable battery too.

It's kind of heavy though, 11oz, but the whole truck is pretty heavy as well, so hopefully it's not that big of a deal.

I want to get a worm geared robot motor to convert into a winch, using a servo as a cheap speed controller. I'll likely just make some winch rollers for the front bumper as if the 1:1 had the winch behind the bumper.
I might get two and make a rear winch as well, but I'll either need a 6ch radio, or figure out some ingenious way to wire it.

The body has spots for LEDs and I'll probably use my 3Racing LED box to power and control them, but the headlights are begging for some huge ultra-bright LEDs, so I don't know.

For paint, I will probably somewhat "Murder" it out, and just go with a satin or flat black, with the black proline wheels.

There will be a little work on the interior, but not much. Maybe a scale figure or two, and maybe a camera mount for in-vehicle-videos. The spur and trans needed a little trimming, but it's not very visible.

I've got a lot to do, but right now it's actually a roller, and I can at least run it in between working on it.

What is really kind of strange is I don't really like 1:1 H2's because most are just blinged out mall crawlers. I'm using this body anyway because there's not a huge selection of larger scale bodies around, and it's got a full interior, and it can actually be pretty cool once it's all done.

I have the same body and would be interested in a body off shot if possible. I am not sure which way to go with my frame so any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's the part I am having a hard time with as well. I'm going to need to custom fabricate something (in terms of a frame) to get it all to work. What I have right now is in "mock-up" status, and looks pretty tossed together.

I had some scrap pieces of flat and angle aluminum to make the mock up frame, and the skid right now is just a piece of abs plastic. I stretched the output of the transmission, and will have a fairly long skid plate (the real one will likely be delrin.) To do that I needed to make a carrier bearing and a coupler (I'll show pics in a little bit.) This will likely end up in delrin as well.

I'll use the measurements from the mock-up chassis to put in CAD and make a new chassis. I'd like to have it cut by machine, but the cost for a one-off is going to be crazy, so it will probably be something I print for a template and cut my self.

My challenge is finding a place to put all the electronics and batteries, which should be easy on a body this big right? The interior takes up quite a bit of room, so it's not as easy really. And I plan to have a few tricks up my sleeve for some of the electronics. (Double winch, remote operated lights, etc.)

I plan to get some good work done on this Saturday, so I can go into some good detail pics to show what I have done so far, and what I plan to do.

The chassis is in a very early mock up state. Really this is just to help me get measurements so I can put it in CAD. Then I can print the file, and cut the chassis plates and bend the frame rails to the right Dimensions.

It's hard to find a good way to mount the electronics, but I think once I get the frame done I can see where the best place is to mount everything.

I'll post the CAD file in a little bit once I get it looking right.

Mine won't look exactly like that, but it's sort of a little inspiration.

(Notice how the links are close to the center of the vehicle on the 1:1, but my H2 has them spaced farther apart?)

There are some stuff on the scale version that are done because some things don't scale down well.

ok, here's the measurements transferred into CAD:


The center section will likely be Lexan with a Delrin skid plate, and the front shock hoop will probably be Lexan as well. the frame rails will be either aluminum or steel, either flat or c-channel. (Leaning toward flat)

To compare to an X-Trail or SCX frame, this is 24.5" long!

I may tweak this a little bit more, but that's the general design. Anyone else with this body might be able to use the design to make their own. I'll have to see how well it works for me.

Ya, I orginally had some losi claws on it, but those looked even smaller! The rover's are just borrowed from the comp crawler for right now. Once I get a new set of tires for the Comp, these will be swapped to the Proline wheels (with the stock foams, notice how much they are depressed from the weight of the body)

where do i find the little sub box? and nice build btw i had a 1/10th scale hummer h2 all blacked out with rims off a DRT so they were 3" rims with low pro looking tires didnt crawl half bad either

The cool thing about that one is since it's bluetooth, you can hold your ipod in your pocket. don't like the song, go to the next one from right there.

I had a smaller H2 body that I was going to make into a trail patrol style vehicle, but it was too small for what I wanted to do. I traded to my friend for a few lipo receiver packs which will go in this in parallel to make an effectively 45C 4500mAh 2s pack.

I just picked up some steel to bend to make the chassis for this. Hope to have that later today. 6 ft of 1/2 by 1/8th steel, should be strong enough with cross braces. Still need to get the lexan for the center chassis "drop down" and the front shock towers.

This will be the first time trying to make a chassis like this, so we'll see how it goes. I'll try and post pics when I get that done.

Those are pretty ridiculous.

I've been looking at the Crazy Krawlers or the Roc Lox that RC4WD has, but $60 is a lot for tires, who knows, down the road maybe. The rovers are going to go on this once the comp crawler gets it's new shoes.

This is more the look I'm going after:



All black, with a few silver/chrome accents. I think I'll keep the grill chrome though, haven't decided yet. I won't have the fender flares, and it will be lifted compared to that pic. I already have the black wheels with black beadlocks, just need to get some silver hub covers.

The SAS you posted with the 40s has some cool stuff done to it as well, I may copy a few things from that build as well. Those hex rod links are pretty cool, and mcmaster has a 3" length of stainless steel 5/16" or 3/8" hex rod for like $11.

I like the blacked out look of the grill in the pic. I would definitely go that route. The headlights should not be that hard to reproduce either. The ones next to the mirror may be a little tougher though, but doable.
