I was lookin at the early stages of this buils w the tcase. I like the idea of the centered front mounted motor and dint know about how durable it would be.

Generally speaking, all planetary transmissions will have more drag with the internal gears because of all the teeth engagement(takes more juice, heats up electronics but a little better drag brake) but Blake has ran the newer version of the RC4WD transmission and it crawls pretty good. Not sure how much power it can handle but it could be good for a normal scaler application. (Blake: >LINK<) (RC4WD: >LINK<).

Say screw this and just lift the truck up in the air?

Would make it slightly easier for side hill winching though.

Well, it’s time to put the Chevy back together for the last time hopefully. The reason I don’t run this truck is that the COG (Center of Gravity) is a bit high and I am ready to fix that issue and drive this beast once again. My buddy Scott (VMGontheRocks) just purchased Sam’s (BigRed) ShortFuse truck and we came up with the idea of doing a “Build off” to get my butt in gear.

But this Build Off will be a little different, each of us will put $50 into a pot and the winner gets to donate the $100 pot to the local food bank of their choice. Community food banks are a great support line for people when times are tough or when tragedies happens. If you reading this, maybe think about doing a “Build Off” with one of your friends, it’s a great way to push yourself and help some people in need as well. Personally, I refuse to give money to pan handlers, I instead give money to local food banks because I know it’s going to something good.

Back to the build, I am going to start off with a fresh Axial SCX10 chassis and I am going to toss some VP Currie axles underneath it. Maybe one day I will fight against Tim’s (WarPig) “EB” in another TTC (Top Truck Challenge) again…l am coming for you Tim….lol…..oh wait…Scott with the ShortFuse might be a contender now too,….we shall see.

Parts are starting to roll in from RPPHobby.com....holy cow they ship fast.

I got a new SSD winch, since I sold my QuickSand winch I really needed something for the bumper because all the room under the hood is taken up by electronics. More pictures to come, I am sure like everyone else....I had to do a bunch of yard chores this weekend.

Updates...

-Made a new front bumper. The two mounting plates sticking out look like it's brazed by a butt joint but I drilled into the 1/2" square tubing and put the two mounting plates inside the square tube.
-I made a some flat adapters to lower the skid plate. With these large 5.75" Baja Claws there is a lot of clearance, plus I want to have more interior room.

Updates....

-I made some new drop skid brackets and drilled some 3/16" holes in the bracket to accept a 3/16" solid rod for the slides/Exo cage mounts.
-I trimmed the interior more to finally get the body resting on the frame. This has been the biggest issue with this truck, the body was sitting so high, killing performance.

Used the old tape and lead pencil technique to transfer the hole pattern.

I might add some weight saving holes later to reduce some weight from these heavy metal brackets.

I am really liking my new drill press setup, makes drill holes so much easier and safer.

I recently got a new 1" thick 30"ish x 30"ish metal fab table, the super flat surface is nice when making sure things are square.

I drilled 3/16" holes into the top corners of the sliders, this to be kind of a press fit to make the slider solid rod pieces for structurally sound.

The solid rods are left long, I still have to finish the sliders.

The steering servo is out side the grill now but I plan on making a cover to make the servo case look like a scale box or etc.

You can kind of tell the drop skid brackets are angling a bit, I plan on fixing this by making a wider skid out of some delrin.

Updates...

-My old aluminum transmission case was showing some age, so I got a new VP case. I am not a fan of the small fins by the shaft outputs but it's nice and light.

-I am getting close to mounting the body, I just have to add some braces the seats/body will bolt to and square stock at the end of the slider that the cage will bolt to. I am getting really excited that the body will be about .75" lower then before, I just hope I don't run into fender/tire rubbing. I am also curious to see if the COG has improved, with the exo cage I know it will never be the best but hope it's a little more side hill capable.
