I wanna get busy crawling, I wanna give it a go and see how I like it. I come from the bashing and racing part of RC for around 15 years or so now, so all the crawling stuff is very new to me. I have no clue what makes one chassis perform better than the next, and what chassis to buy beings there are so many out there. I'm looking for a 2.2 crawler to either build or buy in kit form. I'm not gonna ask what crawler is the best because I know they all perform better or worse on a certain terrain. But I will ask, what makes a certain crawler perform better than the next on different terrain? I am looking at a lot of 2.2 rigs, and the AX10 being on top of my list. I want a truck that will perform well outa the box but is also capable of unlimited modifications and very versatile on any terrain. For kits or ARTR's, I am looking to spend around $300.00 maximum. I don't mind building a truck by scratch either if that's what it takes. In fact if I can build it from scratch then my budget is even higher because I won't be buying everything at one time; this budget would be about $500 for a complete roller without wheels and body. I don't mind spending around $250 - $300 on a set of axles and don't mind paying $100 - $200 on a chassis. So with what that said, what should I be looking at buying from my description? I have a list of what I am eye balling right now. 1. Axial AX10 Scorpion 2. Diablo 1/10 Rock Crawler 3. Copperhead 1/10 Crawler 4. Rock Rider 1/10 Rock Crawler 5. Bully 1/10 Comp Crawler (I would prefer to build this one from ordering parts) 6. Venom Creeper Comp Crawler Kit and Green Venom Creeper Crawler Kit with CKRC stage II kit (I am very skeptical about this truck, just because its Venom and VERY cheap) 7. NewAge CRL-101 2.2 Rock Crawler 8. Team Losi Comp Crawler I am also looking at even buying the Bully 2 Comp 2.2 Axle with Knuckles (Front) and Straight Axle Tube (Rear) and just building a 2.2 crawler off these things. I don't mind buying a kit and then having to upgrade the chassis for a more competitive one either. So what do you y'all think? Ray Last edited by Zero369; 10-16-2009 at 02:28 AM.

Build from scratch Zero369. AX10 based or Bully based are those rigs I can recommend. They bought have unlimited modifications if you like and they bought are very capable rigs..On your budget side,it will cost less for you if you build it from scratch rather than buying a kit.. A lot of those parts from the kit youll end up not using and changing it with things that you will like.

Are you looking for a Comp crawler? or a scale crawler/ 4X4 truck? If you looking for a comp crawler then the AX10 Kit would be the way to go. If your looking for a Scale 4X4 truck then get the SCX10 kit. If your looking to make a scale looking crawler then buy some axial axles, trans, and make your own tuber chassis or buy one pre-made.

Hey thanks guys! And yeah, I'm looking at a Comp Crawler for this project. The two that really stick out to me are the AX10 Scorp and the Bully axles. So I'm guess the AX10 and the Bully are my best bet? I am assuming I should just buy the axles and build from there; yeah? I don't mind doing this at all if that's the case. I'm also looking at a Double Triangulated Suspension chassis designs. I see a lot of those on the web and I have heard really good things about these designs. The GC chassis from Tcscrawlers.com stands out to me as being one of the best right now with a AX10 Scorp platfrom. Ray Last edited by Zero369; 10-16-2009 at 04:58 PM.

If you really want a comp crawler the NewAge CRL-101 2.2 Rock Crawler (berg) is the standard. The kit is a great starting point and ya can add from there. Nearly everyone that gets serious ends up with a berg.

Thanks so much for the help Hippy Edit: Also, isn't it a HUGE difference when comparing a MOA over a Shaftey? I know MOA's and Shaftey's both have their good and bad points. But a Scorp with a GC-2 chassis seems pretty comp ready to me. I know you can mod the MOA's in the electrical department like the 1/8 Clods, so who knows what best, but I think they are both very capable. Ray Last edited by Zero369; 10-16-2009 at 10:14 PM. | |
