| Chevy C10 X-Trail Rebuild
This truck started life as my 2008 Comp Rig.....then last year I built it up as a Nissan Titan with a R2D trans and Goat Brushless System...some electronics boxes, and large comp shocks. Well, I thought that I should build it a little better...and a little lighter, as well as give it better balance. This was also a chance to try a little outrunner on a small ESC...I had read about doing this, but it seems to have lost popularity. The point of this build was originally to build a scaler for next to no $$$ using my shafty comp rig as a doner. That is still the case. The only extra that I bought for this change was the motor ($27). I had everything else just laying around. The original build cost me about $50 outside of the doner truck.....so in total this build has cost under $80 in extras. Parts List: - X-trail Chassis - Axial Axles - Castle Creations Mamba-25 - HobbyCity 5a 6v BEC - FSD Brushless Outrunner 2835-8 1038KV ( http://www.milehighrc.com/brushless2835-8.html ) - Axial Transmission - 12 tooth pinion - Delrin Skid - BlueBird 200oz Metal Gear Servo - 4 Link Front Plate/Servo Mount - 4 Link Rear Plate - Delrin (Xirtic Products) Lower Links - Solid Aluminum Upper Links (Rocksmith Engineering) - Titanium Upper and Lower Steering Links (Rocksmith Engineering) - RC4wd Punisher Drive Shafts - Aluminum Front Axle C's - Aluminum Front Axle Hubs - Aluminum Rear Straight Axle Adapter (RCP) - Hardened Steel Axle Gears Front & Rear - Cromoly Steel Lockers Front and Rear - RC4WD Bruiser Shocks - Axial Chrome Beadlocks - Kreep Krawler Red Foams in Front - Panther Memory Foams in Rear - Losi Crawlers Front and Rear - STRC 12mm Aluminum Clamp-on Hex - Proline Chevy C10 Body - HPI Body Mounts - Spektrum AR6000 RX - 1/4" Delrin Custom Chassis Braces My first impressions after swapping out all the parts was that "DAMN...this little ESC is doing one heck of a job!!" The cogging is minimal, and I may be able to eliminate it with a little tweaking of the ESC. The Mamba-25 is getting a bit warm...just a bit....not even close to HOT. The motor is running so cool that I do not think that it knows that it is running. I may increase the pinion to 14T or 16T to gain some speed as on 3 cells it moves pretty well, but a tad more speed would be helpful. The torque is as I expected from an outrunner...there is just a TON of torque. I did upgrade the firmware on the Mamba-25 to the most current version (I think 1.24) and leveraged the 213% Crawler Brake setting. This thing does not roll at all when off throttle. I truly look forward to hitting some trails/rocks with this thing in the next few days. I do need to do a little post trimming and wire clean-up...but I like where it is at. Here are the PICS. |

Did you need to use an adapter plate with that outrunner to mount it?
