Default TC5's High Lift (Suggestions Needed)

Well Hello everyone I just signed up on here about a month ago and I have to say this place is awesome!!!! With that outta the way.

I got my first crawler about the same time I signed up and it's an AX10 but that's for another thread. So on to the Scaler.

I just picked this from a friend and got a smoking deal ($150) it started as a Toyota Hi-lux and since then he added the frame rails for the F-350. He also got some 2.2 Rock Crushers on what looks like Revolvers installed, drove it a couple of times took it back apart to where you see it now. It also came with a 4 channel Futaba stick radio probably not gonna use it though.

Does anyone know who made these Frame rails?

Just wanted to post up some pics get some feedback as to what works and what doesn't work. I would like to get some more articulation but still keep the leafs if it's possible.

Some of the things I was thinking about doing was....
Delrin springs (any good or do they fall apart?)
RC4wd Mud Slingers
Beadlock Wheels
New Scale shocks
Axle upgrades??? (How do I get rid of the rear steering set-up?)
What else do I need to make this perform

OK guys give me your input!!!

Default Cool........

That truck looks like a solid place to start.

Try checking the newb section for answers to all of those questions. I am a newb to this site too and have found a TON of great info there and by just reading build threads. The "Search" tool is also VERY helpful.

Just my opinion, but I would start with losing that huge bull bar out front. Where to go from there? Pick something and go for it!

Can't wait to see some progress on your build!

Good luck!

We do need the scale course!.... but first off is getting this truck to perform right.
I think I'm gonna go for the four link in the front and stick with the leafs in the rear and see what happens.

Not if a functioning 4 link setup is what you are after...

There is hardly any triangluation, and the link angles are horrible. The axle will move side to side quite a bit.

So should I just make the 4 link myself or is there a good kit to buy.

Made a little headway on the 4 link set-up
6-32 all thread w/Revo rod ends and SS tubing
Alum tubing tapped to 3mm for the standoffs and Alum angle for mounts on the axle and frame
3/16" brake line for the Truss

I think it turned out pretty well and as you can tell lots more articulation!!!

Are both mounting points for your lower links temporary?? They sure don't look like they will be able to handle the load/leverage otherwise.

Maybe the angle of the pictures?

They weren't going to be temporary until I got them installed and noticed that since I cut them so small I could twist them with pliers...But they work for now and will give me a template for some heavier duty mounts later.

THE WAY TO GO WOULD be to keep the leaf up front and 4 link the rear and make all the links as long as possible to keep your WB the same, your upper links are too short.

all you need are some 80mm shocks from like RC4WD or RPP and use those with the leafs up front with no springs and in the rear with a semi droop setup,

then go with 1.9 wheels and tires man, it will be way more scale and look a lot better too, what you could do if money is an issue, get the Axial 1.9 bedlok wheels and some new ProLine TSL SX's 1.9!!! great setup and the tires arent much smaller than Mudslingers really.

and if you can, get rid of that whole tranny setup and toss in an Axial or RC4WD R2 trans and some nice driveshafts

but for sure a better way to go would be leafed front 4 link rear, BUT you have a great 4 link truss to use if you need it . and the links are GREAT, cant go wrong with revo ends and all thread tubed!

please dont get mud slingers tho, they arent a good tire in 2.2, they are OK but there are way better tires, go to RC4WD.com and look at the new TSL BOGGER 1.9's they have, they would look killer!! or the PL Swampers!!

hope this helps! oh and try to get your pinion angle pointed up more front and rear!!

Thank You for the advice. Seeing how this is my first scale build I needed all the help I can get.

On the 4 link in the rear I had thought that might be the case but I hadn't got any feedback on it and the stuff I found was with it in the front so I went with it. What are the reasons it would work better? You talk like you have done this and if so how did it work?

I think I'm gonna go ahead and switch it around because in my head it just makes more sense, but I would still like to hear you reasoning.

As for the wheels YES I am changing those out to 1.9's because like you said 2.2's just don't look right on this truck. I guess I'll have to change to the 1.9 section soon.

Tranny wise..... I finally drove the truck for the first time yesterday and the tranny was already having issues but that might have been from the assembly by the first guy because after I took it apart and reassembled it's shifting great. But I know a new one is going in real soon.

For the shocks I was just wondering what size to order and what set-up to use in them. And it looks like you pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks Again and I guess I'll get out to the shop and start working!!!!
