SO in epic lowslow fashion I have been involved in way more work than I can handle. Basically over the past two weeks I thrashed on my 1:1 1949 willys to get it ready to be flat towed it to Easter Jeep Safari in Moab Utah. it seems that a couple of friends were gonna let me crash in their hotel rooms for the week! It was a blast, but I have not gotten much done with scale crawlers. Here are some pics from Hells Revenge: http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010415.jpghttp://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010417.jpghttp://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010418.jpghttp://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010416.jpghttp://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010414.jpg

Now that I am back I have re-started Barry's truggy build. I started by making a bolt on cross member for the Toyota that will hold leafsprings:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010431.jpghttp://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010435.jpghttp://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010436.jpg

lowslowTJ 04-08-2010 03:42 PM

So the truck is underway. I cut the frame in lieu of the truggyization:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010437.jpg

Next I plan to trim the bottom of the cab and doors so that I can lightly boatside the Truggy. here is what I will trim. Barry let me know what you think!:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010446.jpg
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010445.jpg

as for the front bumper I will re-create a scale Marlin Crawler bumper like this:

Looks good so far Verne. Cut away!!!!

lowslowTJ 04-09-2010 12:38 PM

the cab trim is done, and I do think it is subtle enough that it wont be terribly noticeable and not at all unrealistic. pics:

Lookin cool, glad to see more 2.2's being built!

Hotwheels69 04-09-2010 07:50 PM

The bumper should be easy the second time. "thumbsup"

Yep its a great looking bumper to make a scale version of! Sorry I missed you guys this weekend. I was painting the guest room.

I got some more done on the Yota now that some High Lift springs showed up on my door to replace the short big rig springs I had.

First I brazed in a rear shackle mount in both sides of the frame and made some 5/8ths inch long shackles.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010455.jpg
Then I made some plates to connect the leaf springs to the axle.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010454.jpg

more to come!
These plates first attach to the leaf springs...
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010456.jpg
...and then you bolt on the front axle.
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010457.jpg

lowslowTJ 04-19-2010 10:59 PM

Got the rear links done tonight out of 5/8ths delrin rod. I also fabbed up one of my axial axle trusses:

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010473.jpg
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010472.jpg

Now I can build the tubular part of the rear frame. Barry wants the back of the chassis to be in line with the back of the rear tires, so a 90 degree departure angle.

lowslowTJ 04-26-2010 05:56 PM

I got the back half of the buggy underway! Its looking good, but I want to make sure Barry is down with the bed hight etc. have a look:

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010527.jpg
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010526.jpg
Barry, Is the bed too low? I will add an upper bar like the other Truggys pictured above, and well I like the bed hight, but it aint my truck! So let me know!
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010528.jpg
Here is how the cab will look over the front of the frame. I may add a little suspension lift to get a bit more clearance between the fenders and the tires.

Looking good Verne!

Haven't seen or heard from you in a while, glad to see your alive and building.

lowslowTJ 04-26-2010 06:26 PM

Thanks Brian, and yes the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated, you see I was only "mostly dead" and not "totally dead"!

No I just got a bit burned out on RC's! I knew I would be back, and I think I am! I'll blame my ADD once again. :)

As for the bed here are some ideas of what I would like to do if Nostay likes its location! I also taped the body in place so we can get an idea of where it will be one day!

I think this looks good for the downbar location:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010531.jpg

But I also want to add a 1/8th rod upper bed bar like this for detail:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010532.jpg
Unfortunatly both bits of metal are nearly impossible to hold at one time but I tried! :flipoff:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...J/P1010530.jpg

so the Down bar or C-pillar may pass all the way down to the main bed bar and then the 1/8th upper bed bar will start at the B-pillar, pass through the down bar, follow the main bed bars curve around and then bend down to the main bed bar like the 2nd example Truggy on the first page of this thread!

I hope that makes sense!

I also want to add a bar that will start at the back edge of the rocker guard tube and go up at an angle to the main bed bar.

Thanks, I need to get some more done...but my 1:1 DD had a rear caliper that was sticking ~3,000 miles and the pads and rotor on one side are DONE!

dickwart 04-27-2010 08:57 PM

nice...

lowslowTJ 05-04-2010 08:05 PM

Getting there! Here are some more pics:

the rear tube work is close to being done. I need to add a spare tire carrier and maybe a support here or there:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...f/P1010587.jpg
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...f/P1010588.jpg

Rear shock hoops:

Cab mounts:
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...f/P1010591.jpg
The rear end was sitting a bit high so I made some front lift blocks (a serious no no in 1:1 (do as I say, not as I do)). I beveled the blocks a little to bring the pinion up a little. It was a bit low.:

Body mounts came out perfect and loving the ride height . Thanks for all your hard work.
