Did some more work on the FJ40 today, not too much to write about I'm having a hard time with the large radius on the rear bars... But I did get to mock it up to check for clearance and and measure for rear shock mounts. |

Thanks Dave! I set the WB the same as a stock Honch so just a hair under 12.5". The chassis is the same length as the stock SCX10 chassis which also happens to be the same length as the Proline FJ body, 16.25" I believe.

| Metal work update!
I worked hard over the new years to get to this update. After I sprayed a little primer I locked the skid plate into the frame rails, hopefully I don't need to braze on that part of the chassis anymore. These pictures show the new roof bars, rear shock mounts, seat rear mounts, rear winch mount, rear bumper, bed sides, front battery mount, the dash and the steering wheel mount... Here's a close up of the rear bumper, just a little kicker that can be used as a tow point. I will add a couple vertical bars inside the hoop to act as a winch line guide. Also have a lot of bracing left to do back here and been debating adding a bar strait across the back to connect the bed sides. Quick shot of the the back side of the dash before cleaning, I could have used less silver solder but I want this rig solid... You can also see the small 1/4" flat stock tab for the Axial steering column as well as the mount for the front of the battery tray. |

Well after stewing on this build all week at work last week I decided on the Saturday morning that I the first order of business was to cut out the front window braces. I then flipped them upside down and brazed them back in. I also went crazy with the cross braces and rear cage work. I added more fab tabs for attaching stuff and finished the rear bumper. Also got started on the front fenders, will need some bracing still. To finish the metal work I'll have to complete the front bumper, fire wall mounts, bed panels, grab handles and body mount. |

I have to say it, this is by far my favorite FJ to date. I love have clean and simple things are. And for those that fab, you can really appreciate the bends and the detail work. Well done I'm getting ready to build up an FJ40 for myself soon and this build gets me all stoked up Last edited by kaetwo; 01-15-2011 at 09:27 AM. |

man thanks for the comments guys! here is the final metal work update, despite weight concerns I went big and decided to skin the bed with 22 gauge steel: also sneaked in a couple pair of threaded tabs for the rear fender wells that I'll someday fab from styrene used the 22 gauge again for the front body mounts, also got some rock light tabs brazed on the front of the chassis finished with a couple of grab handles and metal work is done! |
