Scale Halfcab Bronco

I wanted to build a rig that had a wheel base that actually fit the body and also make sure the tires did not stick out to far from the fenders (stupid laws in California).

Here are the specs:
11.5" WB
8.75" track width
2.5" center clearance
8.5" max height of cab

Bender Customs chassis set up 60/40
TLT-1 Axles locked diffs
Blackfoot stub shafts
Stampede trany w/Jato shafts, 120T 64P spur
55t Lathe Motor, 16t 64P pinion
HPI Geolander tires w/pie shape foams
Traxxas rims w/rock rings
2 wheel steering
5 oz of bb's in each tire

BENDER 02-25-2006 07:42 AM

Looks awesome!! I like how scale it is, tires fit under the body nicely.

mulchman 02-25-2006 07:59 AM

AWESOME!!! Maybe if I'm good Santa will bring me one for Christmas. Best scale Bronco to date in my honest opinion.

CoreyK 02-25-2006 08:29 AM

Wow ! Looks great! Awesome Job John!

utbeamer 02-25-2006 08:39 AM

I'm impressed. That's very cool rig. I dig the pre-runner style bumpers and the flat paint on the flairs.

Destroyer 02-25-2006 08:43 AM

Wow! Very nice work, looks really scale. Nice work on the body too! Are those Sprint wheels? How are the 64p gears holding up? Again, excelent work man! Get some action shots:D

gregrocks90046 02-25-2006 09:59 PM

hope you are bringing it to RCX badger!

k9popo 02-25-2006 10:15 PM

Nice work mr. Badger sir. I really dig the bob tail (half cab) and the use of the Blackfoot stub axles to stuff the tires in the wells, great idea. Good work and great attention to detail:).

I will definitely be bringing it to RCX.

Thanks for all the complements guys.

I was really surprised on how well it performed at todays comp, I took 2nd place with it. I had absolutely no run time on the rocks before the comp, and the real surprising thing is I am not going to change one thing on it. I am going to drop it off at one of my LHS's to put on display tomorrow and pick it up shortly before next month's comp to hopefully get some more locals interested in rock crawling.

I have no idea what the sprint wheels are you are referring to and yes the 64P gears are holding up great. I was just browsing Tower and found those wheels and decided to try them.

Destroyer 02-26-2006 07:19 PM

Sorry, I meant Spirit. Are they these?

Thanks for the info!

No they are actually these http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXJJ72 . They look very similar to the ones you posted though, not sure if the specs are the same.

Badger,

First off, that is spectacular. I'm not a ford guy myself but that is nothing short of awesome. I have looked at those wheels for a long time but never could figure out how to get them mounted on the axles due to the wheels 5 bolt hub design. Maybe you could show us some pics of the inside face of the wheel by the hub? I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I am not sure what your referring to regarding a 5 bolt hub design. :? These wheels have your standard + hub for the axle pin to slide into. I had to take the dremel to the wheel hubs because there is to much plastic around the hub when you tighten down your wheel nut the hub hit's the steering knuckle and prevents the wheel from spinning freely.

Here are some pics to better explain.

You can also see in these pics that I pulled the wheels out of the black tie WAY to early.

Thanks for the pictures
I coulda swore those use the older tamiya hubs that were star shaped. I know you have seen em if you have ever bought 2.2 HPI wheels. Anyway it is irrelevant, thanks again.
