Default Toyota "Trekker" Bruiser

Well I have decided to turn the bruiser I got from Unimoger into a scale "Top Truck Challenge" vehicle. For those of you that dont know what Top Truck challenge is, its done anually by four wheeler magazine and is where some of the best built baddestass trucks compete in an insane amount of obstacles. They do a high speed test, Brake test, approach angle measurments, test for street legal ability, rock crawling course, mug bog course, log course etc.

I have decided that my truck base is going to be a Toyota Trekker. The Trekker was Toyotas attempt to enter the SUV world in 1981 (pre 4runner era). It was contract deal between Toyota and Winnebago to create an SUV style truck.

My "Trekker" will feature the following:
-Fully powdercoated frame
-Single speed scale hobbies trans, which is kind of like an engle but doesnt hang down as low
-Bruiser axles with rear hubs all around
-stock bruiser wheels with bead lock rings
-moab tires
-Bobbed bed with full rear cage work which will tie into a in cab cage
-outer exo cage with front stinger, not sure how elaborate itll be, but something probably similiar to my 4runner
-Front mounted steering servo
-Winch
-Juggernaut front leafs with all leafs removed except for main leaf
-Juggernaut rear leafs with all leafs removed ecept for main leaf
-Buggy leaf rear suspension, untill revolvers are available
-Detailed out interior
-Juggsterr front dual shock mount
-Juggsterr lower rear shock mounts with shocks mounted to cross member

Well thats the basis for now, some may change but thats the primary goal.

here are a few pics

My step fathers friend owns a powdercoating shop. My step father worked there before he got into law enforcement so I got everything powdercoated for FREE Click the image to open in full size.

I am hoping to do a cage similiar to this 4runner

that tranny isn't going to work, look at the gearing. there is a 4:1 gear increase not a 4:1 reduction. the big gear and small gear need to be reversed. i got one like that from rc4wd awhile back and had to return it because of the gearing issue but if you use it, it will be very fast.

I've got one of those trannies too. Was it made to be a puller tranny?

hmmm I was not aware of this...makes sense though because if these gears were reversed then the trans would hang down low like an engle. I am not to worried about this, I have a huge spur gear on there now (I think 97 tooth?) and I am going to run a 55t lathe with a custom 10th 48 pitch pinion gear that was made by Radical midwest chassis designs back in the day and I was able to aquire a few in January at a race. Ill see how it runs, worse case senario I drop a pede trans in it.

Well I guess time will tell, if my memory suites me correctly a mag mayhem is 18turn? so a 55 turn and a 10tooth might be a little bit better. Ill worry about it after I get is rolling, and get the bed bobbed, and get the cage and exo work done and...whatever else.

thans for heads up though

I love it..! I have seen that red runner and it is just what I would want when I sell my rigs in trade for a 4runner.

Cant wait to see more..!!!

Have you felt the Juggy leafs without the other leafs in the pack.. I have them and want to use them but they are VERY stiff.. I have a connection to having small leaf packs made up.. I will look into it again...

Your a very very sick man... I think you have a problem with your crawler addiction and I would like to help you join CA, Crawlers Anonymous. Step on: get rid of your bruiser as fast as you can for it may cause all sorts of envy...

Great start, this is going to be one very sick build keep the pics coming...

That is a good shot of that 4Runner on Dump Bump in Moab. One fine ride..

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I worked on it some last night but, since I had to tear apart the orginal truck from Ben, to take some parts to make this work I got delayed because I want to get my WRX Bruiser back together first. That truck is almost done, then I can stick it back on the shelf, and devote full attention to the Trekker. Ill have alot of time to work on it this weekend. so stay tuned, itll probably be a roller by tonight

As far as the juggy leafs go, they are nice and soft without all the additional leafs, I thinks its going to flex pretty well for a Bruiser. Even better once Ben finishes up those revolvers

So, ya got a scale size frig for the back of your trekker? I would have never thought. I'm curious to see this build.
