Default The General

This is The general. I wanted to build a scaler to match it. I didnt take any pics during the build. All I have are the many stages its gone through. I started with the Hilux cab, Painted it OD grean and with an 01 on the side of it and ran it.

I built a rear cage for it, then added the rest of the exo after I relized that the body wouldnt survive much abuse on the rocks. I also doved the front to clear large tires. I also started taking bolth of them to local cruise-ins.

I bolted the body to a stock hilux truck.... i hated it, I had been so used to the way it handled with the AX10 setup. So i bought all the parts to build a SCX10. I made all my own aluminum links with traxxas rod ends. I wanted to be able to take the body on and off so I could work on it easily. I finished the exo cage and built mounts for the chassis to bolt to.

I added some scale accessories, a spare tire and some scale tires.

This is The Generals current state. I cut off the rear cage and built a new one. I like this one better. He got some new shoes for xmas. I added rear steer, windows, more accessories and the truck is now waterproof.

I will post more pics soon.

Awesome Rig! and i mean both scales!

you went all out on it and it shows.

Also thanks for the tip on the tires.

It takes a good set to cut some tires to see results.

It takes a brass set to do it on a 1:1 scale and then on 1:10 scale.

On the 1.1 I made my header from scratch using 1 inch SS into 3 inch SS pie cut U bends and tig welded together. The 1/10 I used a peice of hard fuel line.

I have been running the stock ax10 shocks without springs but with a very heavy oil. Well im finally fed up with the tops popping off and having oil all over my rig and my course. The scale rc EPA is having a fit with all the oil spills on the rocks. So I had some old school losi shocks lying around that I rebuilt. I also chucked them in my drill and spun them in some sand paper to to make them look more like an air shock, plus no more oil leaks. EPA very happy.

I didnt really like the shock hoops that I had built out of aluminum. They work good but didnt look right. Im still learning how to braze correctly. I like these much better. I still need to clean them up and paint.

The new shocks and hoops work so much better on the truck.

You should make it an independent front suspension. NO one has done that before.

Rig looks cool. Glad you didn't paint it some silly Orange or Redish color. Keep up the good work.

I beat the piss out of the General today. The truck ran awesome took a beating and begged for more....... except a little carnage.

The course.

The crash.

The carnage.

I wasnt happy with this section of the cage anyway. I just need an excuse to do it over again. The rest of the cage has taken much harder hits than this, it must have landed perfect on the rock and snap. Wasnt a good weld, im still learning. I will updated as I get it fixed.

I need to fix the broken cage. So I began tearing the rear of the truck apart.

Im just going to do a quick fix. I sleaved the inside of the tube with 6/32 all thread for added strength. I plan on rebuilding the entire rear cage later, for now this is good practice.

I hate the way the front looks. It is so hard to make it straight and even. Also its now bent from all the bashing. I never really liked the design either.

I started cutting.

and cutting.

Wen i built the cage the first time i welded it. It is very hard to make it look clean. This time I am brazing and it is coming out alot nicer and easy to clean up.

A test fit. I cant belive how hard it is to keep things even and straight. I think it is much easier building it full scale.
