Let’s do this!

should turn these,

which spin these,

and make this go.

More to come, stay tuned.

Nice! I assume this is coming to Oregon and Washington this fall? Looks like it's going to be a great build!

Awesome start! I'm curious as to what wheelbase you use.

Thanks man! You did the hard work, I keep spotting awesome little details you put into this chassis! I'll be sure to post up the wheelbase once I get things set in stone, but it's at 13 1/2" right now.

Thanks!

I honestly couldn't tell you how much the frame weighs (I don't own a small scale). It's all tube though, so it weighs about half of what I really expected.

I think the truck will be around 8lbs when complete (with any luck).

I bet it's around 1lb 12oz or so....but that's just a guess. Those fancy skidplates up the weight a little bit.

I was able to get the transmission finished up tonight.

Nothing to crazy with this, just simple and strong! I started with the Hot-Racing "all metal" transmission, removed the stock metal shield bearings and replaced them with Boca green-seal bearings. I also added some new super sticky grease that one of the vendors here was kind enough to send me for testing.

These come from Hot Racing as nicely built units that feature HR's hardened steel gears. I prefer these to the similar Robinson Racing gears as they are lighter and in my opinion just as durable. I replaced the aluminum spur that comes with the transmission with a 32p duratrax gear (60t).

Here's a quick "how-to" on removing annodizing.

Here's what you'll need:

1. Regular Easy-Off oven cleaner
2. Latex Gloves
3. A brush you won't mind throwing away
4. (optional) some sort of metal pan, or area that can be washed

The goal is to use the caustic reaction that the Easy-off creates when it hits the aluminum to remove the anodizing without damaging the surface of the aluminum. Caustic reactions utilize strong bases and are inherently dangerous and can cause chemical burns (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_hydroxide). It's important to consider this while you work with this stuff, and make sure that it doesn't get on your skin or the surrounding area.

Anyway, moving on! The parts get a nice 5-10 minute bath in the Easy-off:

I usually rinse thoroughly with water, scrub with the brush and then repeat the process by adding more Easy-off until the parts are where you want them. My axles will be painted, so they didn't have to be perfect:

You can see that I left some anodizing on there, as I didn't want to pit up the aluminum anymore than I really had too. You can choose to wait longer, and the Easy-off will work to remove the left over anodizing or you can choose to sand it by hand if you want a different finnish. I knew I was going to file and sand the heck out of my housings before they get painted, so I didn't waste anymore time.
