| Wraith killer - IFS scratch build rock racer ok so after a fair amount of planning and brain storming (and having my ass kicked buy a wraith in the north crawl 1hr comp) I have started my build... basically this will be a ifs king of hammers style tube rock buggy. I want it to crawl as well as a scx10 and be as fast as a stock slash, it needs to be able to jump and take a pounding. specs: rear diff - ax10 straight axel, beef tubes, 4link plate. front diff - ax10 converted to ifs with some custom tricks, ally ax10 hubs, stampeed half shafts (posible mip or some other stampeed upgrades) gbox - traxxas summit 2 speed motor/esc eletrics - traxxas vxl waterproof brushless 2200kv, something 3 channel, 3s lipo obviously.. build material - bundy tube, 1.6mmy plate, Suzuki sierra bonnet, guards and grill. suspension - double wish bone front, double triangular 4link rear, scx10 shocks all round. wheels/tires - 2.2 proline rims, proline badlands soft compounds. the parts atm (waiting on a few in the mail) layout of wheel base and start of the outside of the chassis... its going to be TIGHT with the summit box however its a necessary evil for what i want to do with the truck. the wheelbase is 285mm, its nearly 30mm shorter than my scx10, but this can be changed at a latter date buy playing with links etc the ax10 ifs center... just orderd the shafts for this, the front center will actualy be "open" however packed full off bluetack, i have sceen this work on cc01's it gives a LSD effect, however not sure how well it will work with this much power this is the insparation for this build (but with zook skins) Last edited by red_zook; 05-18-2012 at 01:12 AM. |

I'll be watching this. I was just thinking the same front end idea a week back. They do it with ford9s so no reason it wouldn't work.

That sounds like a sic ride. Why not just use the diff from the summit with the controllable diff lock, would you not have enough room?

thanks for all the replys. i don't have a summit diff here and im pretty sure there different ratio? anyways, got a start today. the thredded rod actually go's the full length of the wishbone, the tube is slitted and the rod is bronzed in.. steering will be BTA style, however mounting etc and how the steering will actualy work is still in the air. still not 100% sure if this will be strong enough, but if not i will look in2 full ally lower arms. i will try make her a roller in the next few days! i have sorted out rear links etc tho! What are you going to use for pivot points at the chassis for the a-arms?

couple things to help, chamfer the tubes where they come together and you need more heat and a little less rod on your brazes. you should be able to heat up what you have there and let the the filler "soak in" then let it cool on it's own, don't quench it with water. i will be watching this one, i have thought about doing something similar as a yard basher.

Thanks for all the imput Docwolf- its been a fair while since i have had the map torch out, and im nowhere near the finished product yet! doublej- got a bit more done today. i have some how ended up with more caster than i was aiming for.. its at around 12' atm.. (was aiming for 8') should be fine tho i think, i had a look at a few go fast offroad trucks in a hobby shop today and they run MUCH more! there is still a whole lot of welding/brassing to be done in there, and i need to make the mount for the diff that should be fun... i made the job alot harder for my self because i made it so narrow, but i wanted the longest front arms i could! i like you are keeping it simple, did you cut all the way down to the bolts through the sides of the diff? easy bracket that there.

Rough layout of the truck, everything should just fit even without having to mount things to side panels etc. so that's a good start i can now see the lines of the truck to, should looks good! a little long due to the gearbox but that's fine! |

Oh, man, that's awesome. I'll have to give Adam a call and let him know his car is your inspiration. Pretty sweet build! --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?pprmiv |
