Custom class 3 VW Bug Scaler I like scaling much more then regular crawlers, so I decided to turn my 2.2 comp rig into a class 3 scaler. I am taking a Losi Comp Crawler, and fully converting it to a custom tuber Beetle. :-) So far it's turning out pretty good. Tomorrow I will being adding the shock mounts and skid mounts and it should be about done. Maybe some tweaking. :-) Enough Talk, Pix!! Taking this: http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ler/file-7.jpg and making it a full tuber. Going to be heavier, but cooler! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ler/file-2.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ler/file-4.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ler/file-6.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ler/file-5.jpg And all of that was just tonight. Hope to finish it up tomorrow. :-) |
the tvp chassis goes away leaving full tuber in the end. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC Ok, chopped the TVP down. I left enough for the links and the skid to connect to. Hope that doesn't disqualify it. Then I brazed and bolted it all up. It has a weird lean to it, like it's too heavy. Could use a bit more work. Just not sure what to do. http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ler/file-8.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-10.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-12.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-11.jpg |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC Hey that's cool Ryan - I like the shock mount tabs built right in. |
It works mostly. You can see it tonight. :) Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC UPDATES!!! :-) SO the tuber thing work, but my shocks needed moved around to stop that lean and then it was basically exactly like driving the LCC and didn't "feel" very scale. Also, I had not room for my batteries in there. Or a winch! :-) I decided to go ahead and use an extra scx-10 frame I had laying here and then connect cage work onto that. Yep that will work out much better. Just like Jester said it would. ;-) So here's my progress. I plan to have a stinger off the front to keep me from endoing and to put the winch there. I will cut of there rear of the chassis and put a spare tire there. I want to find some tiny hinges and make the hood open for battery. How do other people hinge stuff? Still a ways to go, but the outer cage is attached to the inner cage now. Need to add some supports to it now, but the general idea is there. http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-14.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-17.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-18.jpg |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC Looks good. Keep us posted! |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC looks awesome im getting ready to do the same thing to my full tuber bug |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC It looks baaaad with those tall tires. I like the frame rails too. Looks mean! |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC Finally got some more time in to build. I added the rear spare tire carrier that I wanted and a stinger to keep me front endoing. The wheel speed is a little low to keep things from burning up so it's hard to drive out of a fae plant. :-) Stinger helps and still lets me climb up thing. The spare doesn't rub at flex (and yes I know it's not a scale legal tire, the other ones aren't here yet) and always me to still drive straight up a wall. Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC It's coming along nicely. It looks SWEET in that last picture! |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC lookin good...............is that the final ride height? |
It needs to be lower. Trying to figure out how to drop it down. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC im building something similar and gotta drop mine too, i have no idea what the fianal ride height should be |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC I honestly don't think mine is much higher then stock lcc ride height. I should have measured it before I started chopping. :-) |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC What is it right now? |
Re: Custom Tuber Bug from an LCC Ok just finishing getting it ready for the comp sunday. I added some slide plates to the bottom of the tube. I water proofed as best I could, and I made a battery tray out of a plastic Captain bottle. :-) Now this rig has a lil Captain in it! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-34.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-35.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-38.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-39.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-40.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-41.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-43.jpg http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...er/file-44.jpg |
