Default Custom 2.2 Scaler Build

So im going to be starting a Custom 2.2 Scale Chassis Build soon, got a basic idea of what I want it to look like, and have most of the measurements worked out, Ill post pictures as the build moves along, Ill be using everything off my my ax-10 for running gear/ suspension etc.

Kinda looks like a Humvee
Being in the army I like the idea
Got 3/16 steel rod for the chassis
Some basic Sheet metal to use for panels
Will be getting some 1/4 SS tube for custom links to go with it
Using a wraith skid plate as a base to work off of
Having a friend do all the welding, bending for me because I dont have the tools or know how in that department

So i reworked the design a little bit, going to try and make it look as close to a hmmwv as possible, found a website with a calculator to do all the length conversions I needed.

Back to lowes I go, I need 7ft more rod before I have everything I need

Heres a Picture of the new design

Any comments or Suggestions would be greatly appreciated and taken into consideration as my build goes along

Just ordered my yokohoma geolander tires for it and some revo rod ends for the links, hopefully will get the rest of the metal today. And maybe get started this week, next weekend I'm moving so won't be doing much work on it until the move is over

Like the H1 hummers, will be checking to see what you come up with.

Geolanders are realistic, but not very good for crawling.

If it's just for trails they will be OK, just a heads up.

thats what my buddy told me today, ill see how they work out, he said theyre a little short, so i may go a different route anyway, hopefully I can get started on it this week but probably wont until the weekend after next, I redid the design again, trying to get it as close to the model hmmwv as I can, got the rest of the rod for the chassis and finaly found the SS tube for the links so we will see what happens

Subscribed, what scale are you going? Independant suspension all around?
Military info if needed, http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humvee.

Ok here it is, Ive decided this is the final design for the build
Over time I want the doors to open as well as the hood
And plan on making a Hatch in the back but for now this is it

I got rid of some of the bracing because there was going to be so much tubing that the rig would have been god awful heavy, and I figured with sheet metal body panels its going to have plenty of structural strength

Comments/ Suggestions are always welcomed, This is my first build so I want it to turn out awesome

If you put some creases in the sheet metal it is incredibly rigid. What thickness are you thinking of?

I honestly dont remember what thickness i got, im thinking its reasonably thick though because it doesnt bend very easily, i dropped the piece i bought and one corner folded a little bit but not very much, if that makes sense

Well I'm putting the build on hold a bit longer, getting some trex60 axles for it before I start fabbing, should have them on Monday or Tuesday, might buy wheels n tires first too, and the sheet metal is 1/16

Wow! That is some thick metal. IIRC that is 16 ga sheet metal, it is going to weigh as much as a 1:1. Hehe.

TREX 60 ARB Axles Mounted to some wood with holes drilled to keep everything straight

Wraith Skid Plate with CKRC Wraith Steel DriveShafts

Set it up on a wheel to get some what of an idea for ride height

Used the 3/16 steel rod and hand bent up a base for the chassis

Added in some cross braces for the shock mounts

Shocks Mounted up

Threw some random wheels and tires my buddy had laying around on there to see how it sits

Rear links made from 1/4 SS tube, 8/32 all thread, and revo rod ends

All the links done

Started The outer/ lower section of the body

Added some bracing and called it a night, I know it doesnt look perfect but I hand bent everything and havent welded in years, so its coming along very nicely, Huge thanks to Chris Russell, He gave me all the know how to do the bends, and helped alot with the welding/ cutting
