Default "Tennessee Ferarri" Build

So I went to KOH last year and seen this incredible buggy called the "Tennesee Ferarri" or the "Blower Buggy". I decided to build my rendition of it. Not exactly the same, as to not "copy" him, but similar enough for it to retain the look I am going for

It is going to be AX10 based, and have 4wheel steer(just like the actual buggy). I'm shooting for about 12" to 12-1/2" Wheelbase. It's going to have AX10 axles, although I think nightcrawlers would suit it better. More than likely it will be running an AX10 trans as well, but I might change it up and throw a Divorced T-case in it. I'm gonna throw a set of 2.2 VP SLW's on it with a set of 2.2 Proline TSL's. On with the pictures!!!!

Here is a couple shots of the original buggy it is based off of:

This thing is damn sexy!

And the naked version:

So I took to the paper to get started on my drawing. I didn't change a whole lot about it, just a couple minor things:

I got started on it tonight by getting the main frame rails bent up and tacked together. I can already tell this is going to be a challenging build.

You can see in this picture where I already changed it from the original plan already:

I made up the side rails so I can start going verticle with the build:

.........then I ran out of steel, so this is as far as I go for now till I make a run to the hardware store. Not bad for a days work.

PLEASE tell me your going to toss a set of rockwells under this?

EDIT: I also hope youve seen buggy's version of this truck. I never actually saw the real thing in his build.

I was so hopeful that there might be a Ferrari engine in a buggy I had to go looking.

That is in fact my ultimate plan. As of now, unfortunately all I have to work with are a set of AX10 axles....

Funny thing, I was looking online at pictures of that buggy and I got a link to his build thread.... I didn't do any searching to see if anyone attempted building it or not before I started.

Not much of an update, but I made some shock mouts for the front axle. The factory mounts don't allow them to lean in very much at all, so I made these to give me as much play as I could need I can also flip them upside down to drop it a little if I need to.

Holy smokes! Your buggy could be mistaken as the real thing at first glance Awesome job in building that thing I am trying to build it with a twist, cause I dont think I can get it lookin as good as the original. Nice job for sure

I have a Cobalt 11 turn puller going in it with a 3s Lipo. So far just an AX10 trans, and an EVX-2 ESC. I very badly want a set of Blackwell steering axles for it, but funding sure won't allow it It will be added to and modified as I can collect the right pieces, but I dont have the patience to wait until I get all the right parts.....

I am trying to do the original buggy justice. Now, if I could only make it sound like the real thing............

I was a little worried trying to make the curve both the fenders identical, so I came up with a bending die. Found an old Toyota pulley I had laying around, and the crotch of the pulley is perfect for bending 3/16 and the diameter was near perfect for the curve I was trying to achieve.
Here is my new tool

In this picture you can see at the top of the pulley, where I drilled a through hole and welded a pin in it to act as leverage for when I am bending. Worked flawlessly!!

Here is my final product.

I am going to try and work on my pictures a bit. I tend to just take a picture where it sits, instead of giving a nice white background so you can see the chassis better

Got the lower windshield bar/A-pillar done

Top view:

Time for that little piece that connects the fender to the A-pillar:

I got anxious and wanted to do the roof line, so that was my next step

From the front:

Scootin right along!! I am assuming it will be sitting on it's own weight by the weekend......
