Talking BallzDeep: Rockridge's Northern Style take on "Moon Rover"

Well i guess this is a little over due so ill start off with some background info....

about a year a go i was in the process of trying to build a 1:1 truggy, when i found out that i was gonna be a dad well there went the 1:1 as i knew time would be limited as well as funds, and there was no way the wife would let me spend countless hours in the garage so the next best thing to a 1:1... how bout a 1/10 version can be in the house and work on it and the cost is way cheeper so i thought.

anyways i had seen a few vids of southern buggies on u tube...and spent hours on hear searching and reading up on them when i came across a "Moon Rover" photo. that was it... that was the one i wanted to build.

think that i might have jumped in way over my head for a first time builder, but with some patients, and helpful advice from everyone hear on RCC i think it can be done Wish me luck and hear we go

Hey, you're on your way...And already you're cheating! My bottom chassis rails were the hardest part of the whole build. One tube from front to back. If I did it all again, I'd do what you're doing (in pieces). As for the joints, did you put something inside the tubes as a connector? Any wire or anything? Feel free to ask any questions. Following.

Ya i tried too get it all in one piece, but those compound bends r quite the f**k around.... specialy trying to match both sides I ended up using a half inch piece of solid stock with an OD the same as the ID of the 3/16. basically a slug, than made sure too get tons of fluxx on the insde of the tube and solid stock.. seemed to work out well. wish i could have got it all in one piece, but this way seemed to be strong enough and made getting both sides exact the same a lot easier

Tires before and after a little trimming

A little more tube work

On the work bench... Use a ceramic tile so I don't burn the place down while brazin

I don't know if you have the link or not...but I'll give it to you. It really helps with the reference pics. Also look up the screamin 2...it's slightly different, but it's a rebuilt version of the moonrover...so essentially the same rig. Here you go. The "hood" tubes look a little flat. It's not too late! Don't be afraid to heat a tube and pull it off. I built on one mistake and created another and I'm kicking myself every time I look at mine! Here you go.

3/16 and 1/4 brake line is most common.

I believe rockridge is using 3/16 for most of the cage.

Sweet! Great start. Lots of these builds popping up lately which I enjoy because the moon rover/screaming II are my favorite buggies at the moment.
