The Green Goblin- My First Southern Buggy

This isnt the first Southern buggy Ive owned, but this is the first one I will be building from the ground up It will be a very slow build, but I am going to do my best at getting this one done up the right way since I have been really getting good with the MIG

I plan to use 1/8 tubing instead of 3/16. I feel that this is a must with these type builds especially for someone like me who has never gone this deep into a tube mess

SO to get started, ive spent the last 2 days watching video after video of Tim Cameron whup this things ass.

I will probably end up changing the drawing some. As you can tell ive not even got the motor cage drawn yet. I know I got to do a little work to the front end a bit and some to the top rear of the cage. I have the overall look down so far though. Scaled it down somewhat to some 2.2 boggers. Using a wraith skid, so it will be wide.




Im hoping this will turn out well. Ive impressed myself so far with my welding skills. Ive had alot of great help from my brother, who took 4 years of welding at GA tech. Hope you guys like the build, it will be a slow one for sure. Prob wont have its own set of axles for a while.

Dude youre just as bad as me There are a few of your rigs in GA right now.

My Other rigs are done except for a rear axle shaft in my Chevy. This will be my 3rd rig on the shelf, and not sold.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 1/8 rod or tubing is not good. 3/16 rod or tube and even 1/4 inch depending on how scale you want it. If you're basing it off a wraith axle, it will be closer to 1/8 scale, and 1/4 tube will work, scaling out to 2.25 inches. The norm though is 3/16 tube or brakeline. The 1/16th here or there isn't going to make a big difference unless you use the 1/8th. Maybe for a 1.9...but not for a 2.2. Pm replied...and feel free to pick my brain. I can surely tell you how to avoid mistakes!

Good rig to build. I'd personally go with 3/16" tubing as well. It's a little tougher to work with yes, but will look more scale, especially if you're making this rig about 1/8 scale.

Thanks for the Tip buddy, I wanted it to be a little smaller to look a touch more scale and make it a little easier to work with. Ive used 1/8 on my chevy and my buddies cherokee and loved using it. I may try 1/4 though. I will definetly picking your brain. Thanks!

Well, Sterling in SC owns the Stallyn, Rojo has the WEE rocker, CrawlininGA has Tuna Tunnel, and chicklet has a tube bronco from him, and one of my buddies has my old version of the vector fab green jeep.

Gotcha, guess I will have to change it up. I have a peice of 3/16 downstairs, so Im going to try to bend the main 2 chassis rails with it and see how it goes.

This will be the first southern buggy I have done all the grunt work on

I will be MIG welding it together. There are going to be a ton of welds on this thing, so I will have to clean every joint up with the dremel.

I beleive Ive gotten the hard part done for the most part. I know with building anything a good platform is what is needed for a good outcome and I think I probably got this thing as straight as an arrow. The bends arent perfect but when I have all the tiny supports in its going to help true it up alot more. Also my welds arent perfect, but anyone can look good when a dremel gets ahold of it.

Started to think I bit off more than I could chew, but everything is straight for the most part. Maybe got a couple of the supports not 100% square but once its painted and hauling ass you wont see it

Got alot of boogies, and alot of welds that need cleanup but I think I like where I am at. I probably need 3 more peices of 3/16 to finish it off. Im really anxious to get the cab peices on, but i am dreading the shock mounts.
