Default Clanker's Wreckluse

Been giving this some thought...plus I've been encouraged by some of my crawling buddies to post a build thread

First off, I need to thank my lovely wife for giving me $1000 to build something from scratch. It was part of a bonus check for her, she didn't have to share it.
I call her "M" in her honor....

SPECS:

HH 35t
MMPRO
Hitec 7955 servo
CC BEC
VP Chubs and knuckles
VP steering link and control arm
VP SLW 1.9 rims, rings and .350 hubs
VP links for a Wraith....didn't actually work...more on that later
MIP shafts
Robinson tranny gears
Axial hardened over/under axel gears
Proline TSL Swampers
RCP Wreckluse chassis

I settled on an RCP Wreckluse ...but with Wraith AR60 axels and as much VP goodness as I could afford for under 1K. But as you will quickly see, that just didn't hold water. Lots of researching part #'s and trying to decide which way to go...and later the first shipments arrived ...

Pretty soon...another package of goodies showed up

Started building the axels and links
Wanted the Wraith axel for additional width and stability...went with a Proline Big Bore 4" shock

The VP links ended up being too long, by quite a bit. So I ended up making my own links. Actually made 4 different sets before I got it right.

Sure like VP quality

So....first mock-up looked pretty sad....1.9" wheels looked like they were lost

Had some 2.2's I never ran from the Wraith RTR....tried them

Promptly sold the 1.9's and ltires....bought a new set of 2.2's from my own personal money pit....VP

I think they look much better

I laid awake at night thinking how I could make a decent interior....never tried anything like this before. Had never tried any styrene work until this either.

I bought a couple of wraith seats and some styrene and found some gauges and such. Started to place some electronics and a 2 cell battery...probably re-arranged it a dozen times.

Had made a couple of simple boxes out of styrene, used some foam for the floorboard support and a flat sheet for the floor

Made a dash out of styrene as well, and did some gauge work. Found a suitable map and a license frame for a GPS, had a steering wheel and a shifter left over from something......anyway, this is how it ended up

Didn't turn out too bad

Had some issues with the servo clearing the chassis once I had everything lined up just right

It's is a later picture, after I made a grill with lights in it...just so you can see the dremel work

This is how it looked just before the first crawl

Wheel base is 12.5"

I ended up not liking the grill at all...plus I had no lights
So I started modding this

Crawling the first time was awful...it had nothing for me. I ended up extending the rear out .75" and adding 2 oz of lead rope in each front wheel and slammed it as much as I could get out of it....hence the fourth set of links

But the results were like night and day...very happy with this now.

I will take some recent pics as soon as I can to update what it looks like now.

Tell me what you think....

For sure Michelle...she just might be a keeper
She actually drove it once...screamed once and gave me back the controller climbing over rocks wasn't her thing....

This was a cool build thread.

I see how you ran into the servo/ chassis clearance issue. I took the shortened link path.

Nice styrene work especially for first try.

getting the link length right is always the hardest and its unique to each build.

I might have to do a wreckluse, uh, erhh, rebuild thread. yeah rebuild...lol. and thats only if i take pics...

Sweet Wreckluse.

Thanks Phins Fan

You get body panels with the chassis purchase....and you only get them once. You cannot buy another set. I am going to try and make my own out of metal when I get some time.

Here's a link to the chassis

I knew that about this chassis when I started the build. So I thought that the wider AR60 axels would help, plus as low as I could get it and still maintain some anti-clocking when compressed. That worked to a certain degree but still had to add weight to the front wheels and extend the back out a bit...remeasured it again last night...wheel base is now right at 13.175".

If I hadn't done that, any climb more than 45* and she wanted to roll over backward. She does a lot better now and is a more fun to run.

Seems each rig is unique as to how to tune it and get it to stick to the ground better...but some added weight down low helps the COG in most cases. You might start with that Lobo...I'll help ya man....
