Default FJ Cheater

I built a sportsman rig last year, and it worked great. I was able to pull lines with it that I couldnt with my stockish XR10. But I only ever used it during comps, most of the time it sat on the shelf. And most of the sportsman rigs in our club are simple budget rigs, making it a little to easy with my rig.

We added a 1.9 scale comp class this year, using the same basic rules as sportsman. Body coverage restrictions, frame requirements, and max tire height. Its been a lot of fun, so I decided to make my 2.2 Sportsman rig into a scaler as well.

Keeping the XR10 mod with long beef tubes, and parallel upper links.

Here is where it sits now. I didnt take any pictures while I was building it.

And a couple pictures from when I first got it running on my test pile behind the garage.

I need to redo the roof panel, and make a new dash panel. After that I might build a partial interior with seats.

Ran it for a few hours today with our local club. Was having a blast driving it around for a few hours, then I pushed it a little to hard against a ledge and stripped the stock plastic idler gear in the trans. Time to order steel gears...

Crammed a 4000mah pack into it last night, for todays trail run.

Here are a few pics I took of the FJ today.

You can also see the firewall/dash panel I added in the last shot.

Using a link mount on the rear axle from level 3 racing, got it from RPP. It was cheap, and it looked like it would give me the link geometry that I wanted. It seems to be working great so far.

Also made some new upper links the other night, rear drive line angle was a little to steep before.

The front upper link mount I made, servo mount is built into the truss. I angled the servo to provide a flatter servo horn.

And a few shots on the rock pile behind the garage, I got a new camera and wanted to test it out.

I took a video as well, but I need to download some software to compress it before I try to upload to youtube. I'll see if I can get something to upload this weekend.

I started working on a new front bib/grill.

The first template didn't quite work out, I needed to move the lights inboard to clear the tube work. And I also had to clearance the edge for the tires. After drawing up a new template, this is the new bib.

I am trying to decide if I want to weld the bib to the tube work, or bolt it on. It is cut from 16 gauge steel. The grill will most likely be styrene.

Finished the grill, decided to keep it all steel.

Its a little crooked, need to open up the mounting holes on the backside and tweak it.

Looks awesome. I had a fj toober with hand made pannels for a while. Built by local member, but I'm hard on rigs and I beat too hard...... Sitting in box now awaiting some love or to be bronzed! Reminds me of that rig

Laid down some paint today, and started on a floor pan.

Can't decide if I want to leave the panels raw, or paint them white.
