Fat girl build thread

I know this rig has been done before but I figured I'd give it a shot myself seeing how I'm a fan of all of Tim Cameron's rigs. basing my build off of a series of photos from Ricky B's site I will be starting with just a wraith skid and a pile of steel tubing. Let's see if this old dog can learn a new trick. I will update this thread periodically as I progress in the build

Cant wait to see it done! Have been working on the same buggy, just uh... a couple scales bigger than this one will be  Hurry up!! :flipoff:

EDIT: The buggy you are building is Jenny Craig. Fat girl had Rockwells, Jenny Craig (No longer heavy as hell) has the 60's "thumbsup"

TheManCave 07-16-2013 11:22 AM

You are exactly correct fat girl did have rockwells and Jenny Craig had the Dana 80 / 60's but the name fat girl sounds better even though I am building technically Jenny Craig. Its a jumbled mess but in the end I'm pretty sure we're going to have another fine addition to the RC Rock bouncing world

Finally the steel construction can begin after about 45 dollars worth of materials from Tractor Supply I am well on my way now to knocking this chassis out as fast as possible but most importantly as accurately as possible

Right on bro. I am watching this as I have future plans for a "bucket" similar to this

Muhahahahaha:cool:

TheManCave 07-16-2013 02:20 PM

Now why doesn't that surprise me :banghead: I've got the main lower rails leading to the front shocks hoops pretty much there just need to weld them in place to start work on the internal cage

Theres already like 4 fat girls built. One in 1/6 scale? Its not like its going to be the first ever in existance.

fordsuperduty 07-16-2013 02:28 PM

Fat girl or Jenny Craig both were killer bouncers can't wait to see some progress pics

????? Who cares right. ?????? I'm sure it won't be the last either

TheManCave 07-16-2013 03:54 PM

I know there are a few in existence I just really like the lines of it so I figured I'd build it. got a little bit more progress done and I'm going to get back at it after I jump in the pool for a little while to relax with a beer

After much debate I have decided to build my own take on a southern buggy with my touches um verses staring at pictures for hours trying to get everything bent exactly like the 1:1. By no means am I throwing in the towel and saying I can't do it I just think at this point in time it would be more fun to see what I come up with with my messed up mind

That is what is fun man! Ive built so many of these and staring at the pictures trying to copy someone elses work gets rediculous. Cant wait to see what you come up with! When you are in that "build my own" mind set build around your electronics shocks and axles. It will perform 20x better

TheManCave 07-20-2013 08:58 PM

I totally agree you get so mentally mind fawked trying to do someone else's work vs just looking at a piece of steel and saying hey I wonder what it would look like if it's bent this way then welded with this other tube. That being said here's where I'm at as of right now after a couple screw ups and welds

Mancave Mancaved in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

But, I understand. I battled on my moonrover/screamin 2 for a long damn time. Getting the 1:1 plan to match all the geometry of the scale setup is pretty tough. I almost gave up and said F it a hundred times, but then figured I'd already gotten this far, why not finish it. At this point, I"m planning a rebuild on it and I'll do my own thing on the improvements.

The bottom line is, southern buggies aren't easy and if you build one in any sense...you're already more daring and accomplished than half the builds out there. Can't wait to see the creation!

TheManCave 07-21-2013 12:22 AM

Lmao Greg imma have to save that line and make it my signature. Its a lot tougher then I thought to do this initially so I have mad props to all of you out there that build these replicas. I used to weld barges together in the middle of summer so it's kind of fun to play around with my little mig. Shuttin her down for the night but not without some progress pics of my overtired non straight welds haha. I'm also going to need y'alls input on where I should make my battery and electronics tray and also how to close the rear end to make it look full
