"Thumper" senior: by CFM Doing a dual build for father and son of the fathers 1:1 K5 Blazer, http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=290050. The sons build was mild but got the overall look achieved for his 9 yr old. Here is a link to that thread, http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...ml#post4176310. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps0b4221a4.jpg This build is for the father and owner of the 1:1, "Thumper", and rightfully so. It has a 555 BB with dual shots of nitrous pumping 1000hp to the wheels when needed for mud bogs. He also uses the rig as his crawler, a true dual purpse rig. For the mud bogs he runs Boggers and Pit Bulls when crawling. He wanted an all out scaler with as much matching detail to the 1:1 and also built bulletproof for the dual purpose running he'll be doing with it. |

All the tube work is 4130 chromoly tube except for 2 small pieces of 1/8" rod on the front bumper. Used our new Fab Tabs( http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tools...ml#post4409806) extensively on this build so far and cut down build time by a few hours. The metal work is about 85% done right now and the front bumper is completely done. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8a88b200.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps39e91a18.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...pscfd1776f.jpg Made a spanner nut like on the 1:1 to lock the functional spare tire carrier in place http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps9675f304.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps81fec41f.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...psb9687099.jpg The entire body and cage hinge together for complete interior and electronics access. The front body posts will be hidden under the cowl hood and the pins will be partially exposed for access leaving the appearance as scale as possible. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...psab623033.jpg Used the "90*" Fab Tabs for mounting the body to the cage http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps555a1e13.jpg Front bumper is a near identical match with exception of where the stinger ties into the base. Had to change a little to work with scale accessories and not have it sticking too far out in front of the truck. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps4d6ecd33.jpg Fab tabs were used for the light mounts and also the frame mounts http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...psb6c27df2.jpg |

Here is a look at the front VP CMS and custom 3 link and pan hard setup. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...psa245cfbe.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps176bcee8.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...pse2e2fd8f.jpg I used the VP CMS kit for the servo mount, then I machined down the VP upper truss on one side so I could mount a re-machined version of their pan hard axle mount for the SCX Currie axles. I had to use some spacers on the servo to move it up about .150" so that the drag link angle was good with the pan hard. I texted Steve@vp and told him to get on the ball, as not everybody runs the Currie axles. He promptly responded, "Already on machine". Would have been nice to know before I hacked their stuff up. Lol!!! Told him he could mine as blueprints, haha. |
Really digging the rear pivot for both the tire carrier and the cage !! Can you take another close up of that section. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 |

Re: "Thumper" senior: by CFM Looks like junk, Clay! Just kidding man. Great job on both the son's rig and the owner's. I know they will be having a blast driving these together. You definitely seem like you know what you're doing... |
A rats nest of wiring that will soon be wrangled. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps9cf630ea.jpg Started interior work. Main interior stays with the truck and the dash will be part of the cage structure and go with the body when it hinges. This will allow access to the battery and hide it when the body is down. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps801c73f7.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps4964f3e2.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps0e24941f.jpg http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...pseff5114b.jpg |
Re: "Thumper" senior: by CFM doing a build like this has to be fun!~ |
Re: "Thumper" senior: by CFM love the 4 seat and the cage above them. what are the lines on the styrene for? symmetry/square? |
Re: "Thumper" senior: by CFM The lines are for him to make sure the measurements and cuts are straight. Looks good Clay. |

Also makes cutting out for the transmission easy. I mark a 6x12 sheet every half inch when doing the floor pans or any other large surface. Plus when I take pieces that are cut off, they are already marked and know how big they are with a quick glance. |
Re: "Thumper" senior: by CFM That is a sweet chassis. |
