Default Nissan Hardbody King Cab build - D21

1/10 scale Nissan D21 Hard Body crawlers
The plan:
  • Tamiya TLT-1 solid axles, shocks, body posts and link ends.
  • Mcallister Nissan King Cab body.
  • Traxxas Rustler rear rims 2.2 - narrowed
  • HPI Yokohama Geolanders - should arrive today 10/17
  • one of my old 540 motors
  • Futaba ESC
  • LED lights
  • Links: 3/16 brake line and 4-40 threaded rod
  • Steel NissanNut ladder frame and bumpers, sliders etc.
  • Team Associated RC10 full bearing trans
  • One truck will have Tamiya Juggernaut leafs on all 4s.
  • Traxas driveshafts
I have learned allot from these threads I want to say thanks to everyone on this board. I was inspired to build this one after seeing "Gabriel". That is an awesome truck. I am terrible at painting so mine will never be that nice. I just wanted to try to build a fun scale like 4wd truck like my "little truck".

Well the first one is almost done.

First truck is just links. The next one will be all leafs. (Just got the juggy leafs Sunday)

First mockup with just rails.

Building a frame

3/4 flat stock 1/8 thick with 23deg cuts as needed. Just welded together.

TLT frame compared to Mine. The rails are bolted together so all the holes are identical on both sides. I also grinded the rails while bolted together so both rails are the same. I am not good at making precise stuff.

Early flex shots, testing suspension ideas.

Added some crossmembers fro trans and stiffness.

Narrowed the rims because they do not fit over tlt axles. This was a learning experience.

Built some sliders and bumpers like the 1:1. Frame is almost done.

I decided to ditch the fiberglass AE shock towers and just make steel ones.

Drive shaft building. This was fun.

More flex shots.

Ride height with street tires. (still waiting for geolanders)

Upside down view.

What do You Guys think?

as long as the TLT shocks are mounted near vertical they perform well, its when you lay en down you have issues.

Nice body! cant wait to see it painted black!

The differential is at the spur gear. Old school at heart.

Although I'd save the old school AE trans and rig, clean it up and at least sell it to someone who likes them on eBay.

Nice work on the frame and rock sliders. I have been waiting for a sweet scale build with one of these bodies. I actually just cut my yota one up tonight, but its going on my bulu comp rig...but I did buy 2

Nice work so far, keep us updated

Mike

Thanks and I love that Pathy body. I had an 88.

OK I put the body on today. Welded on some tabs for the TLT posts. I have never mounted a body via the sides before, but I like that look.

2.2 lbs of steel!

Some plastic was added to mount the stuff onto.

And here is the body. Reminds me of Jack Johnsons Class 4 baja 4wd truck.
