I'm going with a duratrax onyx 4-pole 5mm 3650kv system. I've had this system for a while now in my wraith. But it hasn't seen much use. I thought about u4rc tracks and made some educated guesses on the programming settings.

So none of the drive shafts I have are long enough to reach from the axial tranny to the rear axle. The distance is a good bit longer than a stock wraith. I'm not sure if the long driveshaft thing is an issue that Chuck is working out (again this is a prototype chassis) or if it's there for a reason. The links I'm using are basically the same length as stock wraith links, maybe a hair longer. But none of my wraith driveshafts will fit. So, either the chassis link mounts are located further back on this chassis, or the tranny mounting holes are located further forward on the chassis. Again, not too sure if Chuck meant to do this on purpose. But I think I'll have to make or purchase a longer driveshaft for the rear.

Still waiting on lots of parts.

Anytime I need a long shift a use a Revo MIP shaft with an end to fit the Axial parts...

Good thought. Thanks for the tip.

Do you mean this

Yeah my main problem with this srrx kit is the drivetrain setup. It'll all be good If I can just find all the MIP parts I need.

The male bone mixed in with other mip parts can work as well, since you already have the rest that is.

MIP Spline-CVD™ Male Bone Long, Traxxas E-Revo, T-Maxx 3.3 #08136

Interesting kit this is, I'm watching this one. Is this kit meant to be bodiless? Is there room to adapt body mounts anywhere?

Edit: Just checked the chuckworks site and saw the final setup, bodiless with panels is the game. Probably could mount a body of some sort

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are all male/female MIP splines compatible? If so, you just blew my mind.

Most are yes, use the mip xref pdf file to double check part #'s. For instance pretty much all mip driveshafts for Axial are the same, exception being the wraith hubs. I've replaced parts with that summit male bone and the ax10 dig male to fit differing wheelbase trucks.

To get the slash front end to fit into the srrx chassis, a little filing is needed on the two lower front plastic chassis pieces. Not a big deal, I just figured I'd mention it. The bottom picture shows filed vs non-filed.

Got some more parts today. This is what the stock front end of a 4x4 slash looks like. This is before cutting the shock tower down to fit the srrx front brace.

This is after cutting the slash shock tower down, and with the srrx front brace installed.

You'll need two 3x15mm screws to mount the srrx front brace on properly. The srews that the stock slash uses in this location are 3x10mm (too short). Chuck's directions here were pretty open ended.

The front end is coming together well. I'm still unsure about what to do for the front "bumper". I have a stock slash 4x4 front bumper and I grabbed the front RPM bumper. If you look at Chuck's front end, you'll notice he trimmed and worked on the slash front bumper a bit. I guess I'll follow his lead and try to make something work out of the RPM/traxxas parts.

front end progress.

A heads up for anyone like me who doesn't know anything about traxxas parts:
With regard to the traxxas factory turnbuckles...
Traxxas part #3644 is a 39mm link (This is the rear camber link for that is included with the slash 4x4, not used in the srrx)
Traxxas part #3643 is a 49mm link (This is the factory length for the front camber on a slash 4x4)
Traxxas part #5539 is a 58mm link (This is the factory length for the front steering links on a slash 4x4)

I just thought I'd share the info. I purchased a slash 4x4 turnbuckle set on ebay. The set included all three pairs and I did a little homework to figure out which pair went where.

Tire cutting

This is necessary for the front of the SRRX. I mentioned this in a post on the first page, but simply put the traxxas slash front end requires the use of short course wheels. I cut one side of these tires and trimmed the foams to fit properly on some AKA SC wheels.

Front Spacers

Chuck provides some 4x25mm button heads for the front two main bolts that hold the traxxas front end onto the srrx front. Using the bolts alone, they will thread all the way through the traxxas diff housing and they will severely limit steering by getting in the way of the traxxas steering unit. Really what's needed is 4x20 or so. Those extra 5mm will mess up the steering big time. I didn't have 4x20mm button heads, so I just added spacers on top.

Why do you need to use SC wheels?

Normal scale wheels will not fit on the traxxas slash front end. The knuckles (if they are called that on a slash) are too large.
