Default BVRC's Chuckworks SRRX Rock Racer

I'm not sure if this rig will qualify and a real "scale 2.2"... But rock racing is a scale thing and this rig is meant for rock racing... so here it is.

This is a kit made by ChuckworksRC. It's designed to have an ar60 rear end and a slash 4x4 front end. I haven't seen anyone else build one yet so I thought it'd be fun. Plus I'd like to try some rock racing...

I have tons of parts on order, but my kit showed up today

This is the basic chassis. So far I'm happy with the way the chassis fits together. Nice smooth threads all around, and the plastic seems strong.

I don't have a donor slash 4x4, so I've been slowly collecting parts. This is pretty much everything you need for the front end of the SRRX.

I still need to get a front traxxas shock tower. The shock tower is not actually used for anything on the SRRX, but I realized that it is necessary to complete the diff housing (it is a structural part of the housing). Once I get a stock traxxas front shock tower I'll cut it down so that it's out of the way, but leave the bottom bolted in the diff housing. After that, I'll bolt on the SRRX front brace.

The current version of the build instructions provided by Chuck don't list the slash parts required for the build. Chuck did say though that he's working on making the instructions more complete. Also I think his instructions are for previous slash owners who have a donor vehicle. I'm starting from scratch so it's a bit different.

Wheels/tires are going to be an issue. The slash front end requires short course type wheels. The slash 4x4 hub/knuckles are too large for normal scale 2.2 wheels. As far as I know there aren't any large (5in or so) scale tires that'll fit short course wheels. So I'm going to have to cut the inner walls of the tires to fit the short course 3in inner wheel diameter. I still need to get some short course wheels before cutting tires though.

Approximate wheelbase.

This is an early version. He's in the process of making the srrx a proper kit. I'm guessing it will be for sale on his site once he gets everything worked out. If you email him he'll probably sell you a prototype like this one...

I got to drive Chuck's original prototype month's ago. I was impressed. This rig is a perfect fit in the U4RC 2.2 Comp class.

yeah 2.2 comp is the goal here. I'm having a blast so far with this rig. I've never started with a kit like this before. It's fun to problem solve and find the right parts.

Did you by any chance have a look at Chuck's center drive shaft? I think that's going to be my biggest issue. I'm trying to pair this slash front diff to an axial wraith trans.

No sorry I didn't look at that. It will probably need to be pieced together MIP parts that are cut and welded.

You might look into the Slash 4wd half shaft parts. They are nice and short, it's what I used on my Dinky GR7 and Split Skid combo. Worked very well.

Would a t/e-maxx style drive shafts work for the front? I don't have any experience with these kits and I'm a fan of MIP parts, but cutting and welding them doesn't sound like much fun.

MIP's seem to be the choice for durability at our track. But like Harley said, if the traxxas work and hold up, there ya go. We have Mip's fail during our races. If you decide to go the MIP route, I can get the shaft cut and welded if you don't have the resources. Takes about 15 min.

I meant they were the MIP parts for the Traxxas vehicle. I did this instead of cutting and welding MIP parts.

I had this spare twin hammers drive shaft lying around. I drilled it out to fit on the traxxas front diff. I'm not even to the point where I can see if this works yet, but It may work, at least to get the rig up and running.

Once I get this thing up and running, I'll likely want MIPs. I'll keep your offer in mind.

I went with some Gmade XD piggy-back shocks
Rear: 103mm, 22.5 wt associated oil
Front: 93mm, 40 wt associated oil

You'll be happy with the piggys I love mine on the rear. You can dial in more dampening on the rght rear and really reduce torque twist without making the spring rate heavier.
